WHAT DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED BY NOT CHANGEING YOUR Oil REGULARY?

some friends of mine have a 2002 saturn SL1 (1.9l)116 sohc 4 cylinder 78000k miles with a 4 speed auto tranny.
They hardley ever change their engine oil and oil filter.
hardley ever means 8000 to 10000k miles before it gets changed :banghead: ,
what damage can be done to this engine by doing this?
the engine has a very rough idel and the valve train is noisy.

SO WHAT DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED BY NOT CHANGEING YOUR engine Oil and filter REGULARY?
also how much hell will this engine take before it dies?

thanks in advance

Gee, I wonder if there's any relationship between the rough idle, valve noise, and the lack of regular oil changes??!! Friction is NOT your friend. Dirty oil gets like liquid sandpaper, all the crud and metal flakes grind away at the engine, make more crud and flakes, grind more.....
