96 windstar start up noise

I have a 1996 windstar gl. Recently I noticed a loud sound(sounds like a large air leak)at start up and a rough idle. It clears up after about a minute or two then runs fine. Took it to advance auto to get the codes read and was told in had a misfire code for cylinder 1 and a vss code. Anybody have an idea?

how many miles does this baby have? and have you tuned it up lately?

122,000 miles we just bought it so I dont know about the tune up. It still runs good except at start up and sometimes there is a slight hesitation but I was told the hesitation was the VSS
