What formerly great looking car has the worst redesigned styling?

Hyundai Coupe. in 1996 it was a fantastic looking little two door coupe. Then in 1999 it got a facelift that made it look like something from outer-space.

Luckily the 2002 model put things right.

Other shit-listers include
-Honda Civic hatch (2001, morphing into the 2003 atrocity)
-Pontiac GTO (Looked good in 1964 and then there came the 1971 model, oh dear......)

Amen to that. It doesn't even resemble a Skyline at all.

Definantly the GTO...now it just looks like a grand prix.

I think the new Pontiac GTO looks far more bland than ugly. The 2004 Pontiac GTO Ram Air 6 doesn't look too bad. It wasn't a production car.

http://seriouswheels.com/top-2004-Pontiac-GTO-Ram-Air-6.htm

The new BMWs take the ugly cake.

Here is a Kia Rio and a 2004 BMW 525i which costs around $43,000 for just 184 hp for 2005! The Kia Rio came out in 2001. Notice the trunk lines and the lines from the rear fenders that stop at the taillights.

Here is the new BMW 6 series. Notice the hideous trunk.

http://members.roadfly.org/bm75204/645TrunkUp.jpg

The BMW Z4 looks like a smashed toy car with all of those lines and angles. This green is a factory BMW color which is called "Urban Green." They no longer offer it for good reason.

Here is a BMW 850CSi. This was the big, fast BMW coupe for the 90s. It was tuned by BMW M.

Here is a BMW E34 M5 (second generation M5). Notice the clean, understated lines. Who would think that this ten-year-old car has over 310 hp?

Personally I think the late nineties E39 5-Series and the E46 3-Series are the height of BMW styling, not the 8-series and E34. I also wouldn't go so harsh on the new 6-Series. I think that they are great looking cars (especially in black). The E60 5-Series has grown on me alot, and I like the E60 M5 styling alot. I'd take a E60 5er anyday over a E-Class, A6, etc...

1. GTO (it's a Grand Am/Sunfire with a LS-2)
2. Charger (a 4 door family sedan with the headlights of a Viper and the rear end of an Intrepid)
3. T-Bird (what happened there?)

ok... let's see....first off, i don't like the new beetle.
it's not the looks of it, rather i don't like the fact that it really is a golf in disguise.
i don't think i would've half minded if they actually did anything to the mechanicals underneath it.
on the other hand, i'm not sure oif the new beetle looks better then the old.... well, given a choice i would take an nice 1973 beetle over a brand new one.

i'm also not too keen on the new mini.
i know it's a cracking car and all that but well, park it next to a REAL mini and you will begin to understand what i don't like.
well... it's NOT mini.
it looks the part but next to something like an A4 and you can see just how big and chunky the mini is.

i know, both of these are really minor and quite petty points so now for a car that i really don't like the re-design of.

3200GT......
you all know what i'm talking about....

kidding..... kind of.
ahem.
i really don't like the new peugeot 407.
how did they get from the quite classy 406 AND especially the absolutely gorgeous 406 coupe that the long nosed monstrosity that is the 407?
the only colour that makes the 407 look half dencent is black but that's only because it hides the lines and details.

1974 Chevrolet Camaro has to be in the top ten; the 1970-1/2 through 1973 were good-looking cars.

And what does making it look like crap have to do with safety? It doesn't look like a Jetta anymore!!! So what if it's safer? They ruined it.

new Audi A4 and A6 are inferior to their previous designs. I don't mind the BMW 5 series design, but 3 series is ruined. ALL Mercedes look quite worse, except for the SL. Mitsubishi Galant...my god, what the hell happen to it? The new upcoming Eclipse doesn't look good either. I don't like the current Accord, too bulky and simple. The retro Mustang doesn't look any better than the modern Mustang it replaced. The GTO is really boring. Cadillac, just drop the angular theme. That's about it.

I actually like the look of the new Charger. It looks like it has a lot of power but is still practical.

Ok if you're going to bring back a famous muscle car there are a few things you need to follow.
First, if you talk to most people they'll tell you that you don't put four doors on a muscle car. Before there were muscle cars there were the big four door family grocery getters that were turned into two door muscle cars. People want that two door muscle car Charger, not a four door grandma grocery getter.
Secondly, they seem to be putting some Viper here, Intrepid here, 300c, ect all in the car. They seem to be following the GTO with Grand Am all over it. The thing needs to be an original design and they need to listen to the fan base who want some of the '60's designs in it.
Finally, practical and Charger shouldn't really be in the same sentence. Maybe they could make a practical version and then have their high end one that looks like a real muscle car but not all in one.
Also, a couple of people say that if you look hard enough the Charger looks a bit like the new Mustang. Do you guys see it?

Wow, good points on the Charger thinking, my mind was going the exact same way

but do you really think theres enough ppl in the V8 2door speed machine range? Every guy who remembers the days of the charger probably has a family making the car you envision too irresponsible a purchase...

However, the fact that Mercedes...err I mean Chrysler keeps coming up with these not really sports sports cars leaves much to be desired....Ill stick with my 250hp turbo 5sp manual Legacy thank you, its irresponsible enough for me

Even though I'm not a Bimmer hater, I would have to say that the worst redesigned styling belongs to the BMW 5 -series.
And the runner up would be the Ferrari 612, which has replaced the beautiful 456!
Sorry, I take it all back, I detest the new Peugeot 407 more than anything to be perfectly honest...

04 gto is a really bad car and i own a gto "not 04" and i feel bad sayin this but the car disgraced the name. Its just a holden monaro with some minor emblem and interior chnages, not to mention its the slowest LS1 powered vehcile ever built"thank god they switched to the LS2". 05 still looks like crap no matter what.then theres the charger. a 4door muscle car WTF was the dodge designers thinking. your killing the name like u did back in the 80s with that shitty 4cyl wannabe charger.

According to C&D (if i remember right) the GTO sold 8000 as of October, while they were planning something like 15000 sales for the year... and I can't see why people would buy it now if they wouldn't buy it then

I think GM hopes the 50hp boost from the LS1 to the LS2, as well as the new aerodynamics package will attract more buyers. I doubt it will, but I think it would be sad to see GM with no sports car between the Cobalt SS and the Corvette to compete with the Mustang GT.

I don't know. I like the Charger look. it seems like it will have a lot of power and it simply looks mean. At the same time, it will have some practicality to it as well. It will be interesting to see what they look like on the streets.
