98 Windstar codes

98 windstar code DTC P0171, System to lean Bank 1. It dies at idle occasionally, and cuts out at 4000 rpm in driveway. With a load on it will go to 4800 before shifting with no problems. Changed plugs and fuel filter. Local parts store says might be O2 sensor, fuel pressure regulator or bad injectiors. I need to know which is Bank 1 and what might be the logical place to start checking for problem parts. Thanx Mike.

could be the idle air control and the MAF. i would start there

Think of the engine as swung around 90 degreees to the position it would be in a regular old rear wheel drive vehicle. The RH side of the engine is bank #1...cyls #1 - #3.

Or in case of the 'star, the Bank #1 is near the firewall.
