Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2004 Impala LS. Mileage is 31,000. When turning left or right corners, I feel clicking in the steering wheel as I am turning it. I will be taking it in, but wanted to know what the cause may be so I can go in there somewhat educated about the problem.

Thanks in advance to any replies!

Most likely the Intermediate Steering shaft. I had a similar clicking on the '03 I had just gotten, and read some earlier posts on lubricating the shaft. There's a kit from GM that runs about $8 and it cleared up the problem on my car.

I had the same problem on my 2000.... I didn't do anything about it except rotate the tires... I don't really understand why, but after I rotated the tires, the clicking sound went away...

I went to the dealership and they told me they are back ordered for months. He checked the internet and said there are about 9600 on back order. I need one to make this clicking go away.

I really don't think it's the ISS causing the clicking noise. My ISS is bad (and has been for about a year now) about 6 months ago my wheels started clicking when I turned the steering wheel. After I rotated the tires, the clicking went away. I had someone tell me that there is a problem with the sub frame on some of these cars that can cause clicking and I figure that when I rotated the tires, I must have tweaked something back into place again....cuz the clicking went away and hasn't came back... however, my ISS is still bad.

Thanks for all of the replies!

It did turn out to be a problem with the Intermediate Steering Shaft. Dealer said they have redesigned it, and that it was good for me that it went bad within the warranty period. they replaced it, and No more clicking! :)
