Just two days ago we were at a stop light, pressed the throttle to go and BAM something broke. All forward gears are gone just reverse works. 68,000 miles on a 99 model and it is gonna take up to $2500 to replace with a remanufactured tranny. I searched the web and found complaints about faulty transmissions everywhere - even new and rebuilt ones. Cant find anything on any class action suits to get Ford to correct and fix the problem. But did file a complaint at www.lawyersandsettlements.com
Anyone else who has had this costly Ford quality fubar, go place your complaint there or offer any info here. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your experience..I had the same exact problem a few years ago with my 2000 Windstar, but no "BAM"..We just started rolling backwards..Only had 27,000 miles on it, so it was still under warranty, and thank goodness we purchased the extended warranty (got a free rent car for a week)..Only time I ever purchased an extended warranty on "anything" and it sure paid off..Now have 72000 miles on the Windstar, and it's doing just fine now..

When my tranny went on my '96 3.8L, at about 100K miles.....I did a lot of reading on the internet.
There are cheaper rebuilt trannys out there.......but it seems that the people who had the $1600 job......were very unhappy....as the replacement went out again.....
So, like you, I bit the bullet and shelled out $2700+ for the FORD rebuilt.
I am at 146K miles now.....and I have an auxilary tranny cooler.
I plan to change the fluid 0nce a year.....
Keep up on the fluid changes.....and look into a auxilary cooler, and your replacement should give you good service.
This tranny problem seems to be with most all minivans.
