Where is a good location to drain the fluid from the pwr steering system on a 2001 Windstar? Any helpful tips also welcome.

There was a thread describing the procedure. Try a search in this forum.
Basically the suggestion was to take the weight off of the front wheels and disconnect the return line to the resevoir. With the help of a friend crank the engine and the old fluid will flow out of the return line (into some container to collect it) and you can pour new fluid to the resevoir at the same time. The wheel should be turned from side to side too.

The power steering reservoir is a large portion of the total system volume. If you completely empty and refill the reservoir occasionally (say .. concurrently with engine oil changes) the fluid will be kept in good condition.
The reservoir is easy to remove from its plastic mounting clips and roll on its side ... in the engine compartment ...while being still attached to hoses. This allows you to pour out much of the fluid into a small container. A rubber battery filler syringe is helpful to totally empty the reservoir.
