My 1993 saturn won't start after being left sitting in the cold for 2 weeks. We have jumped the battery, which has resulted in light, radio all electric's and the engine turning over. However it doen't give the final crank. I was told to get starting fluid which I have now please don't laugh, but the can says to spray it on the carburetor. Can someone tell me what and where is the carburetor. I little diagram would be very helpful.
Please help

starting fluid is crap, you shouldn't need it, plus it can distroy piston rings, make the engine become dependent, or start a fire. etherway you don't have a carburetor, instead, you would spray it in the throttle body(mounted on top of the intake manifold for SOHC, on the side for DOHC)
try connecting the jumper cables again, let the jumper car run for a little bit to let the dead battery charge for a few minutes first. then try starting the dead car at part throttle(wide-open throttle puts the car in clear flood mode, closed throttle won't let enough air without the ideal IAC position stored in the computer's KAM)

the ideal way (or safe way) to jump a car is first to connect the two vehicles together but don't run any of them; just let them be connected while off for 10 minutes. then run the vehicle that isn't dead for 10-15 minutes. Then try to start the dead vehicle with just the positive only and the negative grounded, then connect negative if it doesn't turn over. The way i jumped my old 89 probe that had severe electrical or alternator problems (or both).

Hi, thanks for replying to my question. I don't mean to sound stupid, but I really don't know anything about cars. Please could you explain how I start the car at part throttle? thanks in advace for you help.

don't worry, you don't sound stupid, i've used starting fluid my self before, and its taken me a few years and $20,000 of schooling to learn better.
closed throttle - foot off pedal
wide-open throttle(WOT) - pedal down to the floor
part/partical throttle - somewhere in the middle

Welcome to the Forum and,
Hey, No One Sounds Stupid Asking Questions!- only the people who ACT like they know what they're talking about do!
If all your electronics were dead before you tryed jumping it off, it was/is a dead battery...
I agree (of couse) with sierrap615,
don't use starting fluid, especially if you're not good with cars- you'd use too little or too much... but yeah its about as good for your car as spraying some carb cleaner in there...Not Good regardless
If it rotates but wont crank over the final time, it may have been flooded at this time from pumping/holding the gas (or in a honda case I saw recently, leaking injectors-probably not)or it was rotating too slowly because the battery was still too weak,so try again without so much gas, yeah- partial throttle.
Most peoples big mistake with jumping a car off is not giving the battery long enough to charge before attempting to crank it over. good 5-10 minutes should be fine
Also, make sure that all electronics in the car (lights, radio, etc.) are Off while charging and jumping your car off, even your dome light overhead, might have been one left on that killed it(could have just been the cold though).
my advice is find a buddy that knows cars pretty well, get thier help with jumping it off...Keep you from shocking yourself :)
Good Luck and keep us posted,
