Hey i got this 1992 saturn SL1 for free after i helped rebuild the head. i dont want to keep it a auto. i got some mods in mind but i'd rather have it be a manual. how hard would this swap be?

thanks for all your help

Its a good idea if you're looking to do any kind of performance mods...
I got a free '97 sl1 manual
my mom has a '02 sl1 auto
MAN IS THERE A DIFFERENCE!
from what i hear its a pretty difficult mod to do yourself (no personal experience with tranny swaps though)
after you've switched it over to manual theres alot of cheap or "free" mods you can do like:
-Bore/Port Throttle Body
-Plugs and wires
-Interior and engine bay paint
-Exhaust (e-bay ~$1 plus ~$35 S/H)
-Aftermarket Intake or the cheap version remove air intake silencer
-Lots of others...
But being able to push your shifts to 4-5K with that manual transmission is going to be the most helpful...

I know this doesn't help you with DIY instructions but I'm just tryin to be honest... ask a shop

i worked in a garage and trust me it would be cheaper to do it yourself.you need 5-speed shifter and cables both sohc and dohc trans will fit in.I just finished my 93sl2 from auto to manual with a dohc head on a sohc block and a 94 sohc trans w/phantom grip diff. and welded diff pin on both sides.want more hit me up at alg8-16excite.com
