Rhythmic suck tick from under the front end

I picked up my van from the tranny shop and I heard this rhythmic suck/tick sound so I asked what on earth that is. One guy said it sounds like the power steering. It then went away and then a little bit later I could hear it again. Is it the power steering pump or something else? Thanks,
