I have a 97 wagon. when the car i put in reverse the High Mounted Brake Light comes on, but not the back-up lights. The brake pedal has no effect on the high mounted back up light, but the regular brake lights work. Also, the AC seems to have stopped working effectively. No fuses are blown, but if I turn the AC on and put the car in Reverse, I BELIEVE the Back up lights work, so dimly they can barely be seen for a few seconds. Then they dont. If I replace the non blown fuse, it works again. I know that the fuse is not the problem, but I wonder if it could be a relay? I also know the back up lights and the AC are on the same circuit. So it is connected, but I just cant figure it out.

As to your electrical problem in your sable... i am having a simular electrical problem, but not the same items working weird...
My 97 sable the front radio speakers stopped working, the fuel gauge stopped working, the radio, and A/C only worked when the car is in park, or neutral.... The door chime will start dinging all of a sudden in the middle of a trip and wont turn off till the key is out of the ignition ....
I found another guy that had the EXACT same problems as I had and he said that it was the Transmission Position Sensor .... The reason that it had those effects was because they were all on the same circuit and with tha sensor being out it caused an open circuit.....
I am going to purchase the sensor tomorrow and see if it helps...
If this cures my problem, then you probably have a sensor, or relay out somewhere in that circuit...
Ill let you know how it turns out whe I replace this sensor...
Feel free to e-mail me, I have my e-mail listed through the site....
