Porsche 910 fiberglass....

I am working on Tamiya's 1/12 910 kit. My question is has anybody found a good way to recreate scale fiberglass???? paint or what????

I have thought about actually attempting using real fiberglass, but the problem is the size of the piece. Any suggestions????

I really wish one of the decal companies that make CF would step up and make some fiberglass sheets like what is on the intakes. A lot of cars had fiberglass like this. The only other way that I can think to replicate this is by making some transparent decals with soft brown stripes.

I remember seeing on here a long while back, somebody was building a Tamiya 935 in 1/12. I think he was using pantyhose drybrushed if I remember correctly?

I think that was Privateer with the pantyhose. :)
Biggest issue is the translucence of raw fibreglass like that. Be nice if the part was molded in clear then you could texture and tint it up nicely. But if it's opaque it will most likely never look completely correct.

That was me,but it was not panty hose .....it was nylon mesh from the wifes lingerie. Do it like this: first lay the nylon mesh on the part , then brush liquid cement over the mesh, the plastic will soften allowing the mesh to stick. When that is dry , spray the part with a white primer,then brush on Tamiya clear yellow. Follow up with a wash of Testor's "
leather" .

Yeah, thanks for the pics. I will have to give it a try.....

I searched back and found your thread on the 935. Did you paint the fan shroud/fan assy.; or was that part of the S.M. detail kit??
BTW, nice build on the Porsche!!

The fan shroud was molded in a transclucent, milky plastic. I used Tamiya clear yellow, followed by a light wash of Testors " leather". Thanks for the compliment on the Porsche, someday I'll figure out the door window glass and finish it.
