Struts with springs mounted?

I know I saw a ad or a commercial recently from one of the auto parts retailers advertizing that they had struts with the coil springs already installed so the average joe could replace them easier and safer. I have done it before with a coil spring compressor so I am not worried about it but getting to the age where easier is better than cheaper. I remember the ad saying it was only about $10 bucks more than just the strut itself. This would eliminate renting the compressor, and save about $100 dollars in shop labor.
Anybody ever hear about this or am I nuts??
Any suggestions of strut replacement would be appreciated. I have done it before so I dont need help with HOW-TO, but not familiar with small car stuff. Whats a good brand?
Ive had a knocking noise coming from the front for awhile and have traced it to the struts. It is most noticeable at very low speeds, like my gravel driveway, or rough roads.
