cam sychronizer

I have a 1997 sable with a 3.0 single cam. It has sheared of the tab on the top of the cps sychronizer. Can i set the engine at top dead center on #1 cylinder ?? or is there another way? any help would be apprecated.... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

when i set the car at top dead center on #1 cylinder ,what is the position of the tab on the top of the sychronizer?

I have a 97 sable and the engine started missing. I had the check engine soon light checked and it was the cam sensor...when the sensor was removed the tab was sheared off the top of the sychronizer. My mechanic marked the old one and replaced the new one the same way. The engine light went off until a mile down the road and it came back on and the engine is still missing. Now the engine light is leaving a code that the second cyclinder is misfiring...Could this be because the synchronizer isn't in properly???
