what is the diff..?

What is the diffenct between SOHC and DOHC Trannys and engine blocks? can a Dohc head be put on an Sohc block? whats diffenct between the tranny? thanks you

a head swap can be done. you will also need to swap the PCM(and maybe the wiring harness). the blocks are identical, but pistons are different. the SOHC pistions will work with both DOHC and SOHC heads. the DOHC pistons will not work with SOHC head. however, SOHC pistons with a DOHC head will not give you the full 9.5:1 compression the DOHC pistons will. the difference with the transmission is the gear ratios only. however, the SOHC auto trans won't work with the DOHC PCM or vise versa. manuals will work ether way. and of course every year has its own little details.

everyone tells me the 93 sl2 sohc transmissions will not fit the dohc block. is this correct?

they will fit, however the gear ratios are different. manuals trans won't care, but auto trans won't work

does a sohc tranny have better gears in it for racing? or is !st gear the only diff?

the SOHC's longer gears are only ideal for boosted cars
