I am back!!!! with questions...

Whats going on people. I am back in the game again. For those that don't know me, I sold my hatch, missed it badly after selling, and now I am back with another one that I came up on. I think I got a good deal on it. We traded cars. I had an '87 Intega that was clean (just painted) and I paid $350 for. Thats the total price including paint. and this guy had a '90 Hatch w/d16z6 swap, lowered, 6 pc wing west kit, GSR front seats, si rear seats, gsr console, and more. He couldn't figure out why it wasn't running.

I just finished picking it up tonight and it is giving a code 9 and code 16. One thing that puzzles me is that he is using a Si computer on this set up. Could this be a problem?? I will look closer into it tomorrow when its daylight outside, just trying to get a head start on it though. I forgot to add that the car starts and runs but cuts out at 2500rpms, if this helps any.

the d16z6 is vtec right? if so i believe it needs the vtec computer, but thats if its wired for obd1, if its still wired for obd0 then i think u can use the Si computer and run an rpm activated switch for the vtec, the code 16 is for the fuel injectors, could be cutting out because ones not working, there clogged etc...... hope something here helps :)

oh yea, Welcome Back!!!!!!! :D

Code 9 (9 flashes) No. 1 cylinder position (1.6L)
Code 16 (16 flashes) Fuel injector
i would say look around and see if the computer matters, wild shot in the dark, and especally if he hasnt had the new moter runnen, i would say its the computer

not a computer problem...more sounds like they messed up when doing the MPFI wiring

which is probably why they traded :shakehead look over the wiring and let us know whats going on. that way it can be sorted out

if it's a dx...and and an mpfi swap was performed...then it definitely sounds like a mpfi problem. I don't think they wired the resistor box/injectors right or the distributor.

the pm6 si ecu will run a sohc vtec without any problems....just won't engage vtec that's all.

Yes he did. He fought it to the end and now he is out. He didn't go to war at all. We wrote the congressmen and got other people involved because the group that he was assigned to was handling his situation all wrong and illegal. My brother pulled out his contracts, got info off the net, he was basically his own lawyer. LOL anyways the platoon he was assigned to got in some big trouble and he of course is here at home chilling. :grinno:

Ok on to a few pics that I snapped tonight. This is they way he has the distributor wired. I believe the dist. code said something like TD-18u?? Can anyone lead me to some good wiring diagrams for this engine??

Vtec-E..... z6 block with a vtec-e head? and Si injection

or is it just the valve cover

civickiller
01-25-2005, 12:39 AM
thats what my friends dist looked like when he did a z6 swap but kept it obd0. so that it would bolt up right. but his looked positioned different. i would throw a timing light on that and make sure hte timing is good

someone on Honda-tech pointed out the valve cover thing. Hopefully its just a change of valve cover. The block says d16z6. thanks for the help so far people!!

that wiring looks like anus. Its absolutely horrendous!
I would think that it's wired wrong just by looking at the pictures you took. it doesn't look like he knew what he was doing. You should trace each wire from the dizzy back to the ecu with a continuity tester or multimeter.
valve cover sucks...lol.

The td 18u is the 88-91 civic/crx si distributor. That distributor isn't supposed to be able to bolt to that head without modification. Can you look on the head and tell me what head code it is? What engine code does it say on the block? Maybe it's a d15z1 head on a z6 block...
it's kinda confusing...
does the distributor legs look modified at all?

this probably wont help, on the distibuter there are 2 SOLID white wires, i wired mine backwords the first time it barly started and barly moved, so then i switched them around and its perfect!

thanks for the help everyone. We solved them problem today. #3 cylinder wasn't firing because the injector was bad. Got 4 injectors (only needed 1) from the junkyard and everything is running fine.

As far as wiring everything is cool. He and a friend must have done the bootlegging trying to figure it out, because the rest of the wiring is soldered and everything. Just on that distributor part is where it is looking bad.

We had to change the oil because the injector was sticking open, i guess, causing it to flood. The oil was thin as water too.
