Sliding door sensor not working

I too have been plagued with the mind crazing ding ding ding when driving and inside lights being on as if a door is open with the door ajar light always illuminated. A mech ran a computer check and the door that is causing the issues appears to be my sliding door.

The lock doesn't always come up enough with the remote lock thing, and it won't open and sometimes I need to push it a few times to get it up high enough to open the door. I use the key and the lock gets sticky with that too I have to fenagle(sp?) it a bit.

Sometimes when the dinging keeps on and the lights are on and I leave the van and push the lock button, the locks will go down then the sliding door lock pops back up. Sometimes it won't even lock at all.

Crazy crazy door. Is it possible to change or fix that sensor myself? I know it has those pins on it and upon inspection I see that the two parts to it are attached to the vehicle with some kind of something that I can't remove. I hope this makes sense but hey this is a Ford and well we have to be so creative with these vehicles, it isn't a standard screw or a bolt or anything it is totally flat. Thanks in advance.

I do have to add that that door dinging is one of the most torturous sounds alive.

Spray latching mechanism with WD-40 worked great for me can't believe I lived with it so long and the fix was so easy.

Oh I did that on all my door to be sure. the code comes up for that door though so it is something in the prongs that a connection isn't making it all the time. Rarely, the door open dash warning light will go off when the doors are closed, so it isn't totally shot I guess. Just wondering how to fix that one door since it is the 4 prong sensor. Thanks.

Hi, with the key off carefully clean the metal contacts on each of the spring loaded pins and and the metal contact plates on the door jamb. I have used very fine steel wool to good effect. In my case it fixed the inop power lock on my slider.

Good Luck

[QUOTE= M&J'S MOM] The steel wool worked great no more waiting for 40 mins to have the lights shut off.

I recommend against steel wool because it promotes corrosion on brass connections like those on the door.

Use a medium-density eraser (I use ruby-red) to remove the corrosion and grime off the pins. Then apply a dielectric lubricant-- either dielectric grease like they sell for spark plug wires or tv tuner cleaner (available at Radio Shack), this will help protect the contacts and reduce the tarnishing and corrosion.

The tv tuner cleaner spray is good for all the door switches... better than WD-40, which can actually cause problems in electrical equipment.

Had same problem with my 95. I replaced the ignition switch and it went away.
