ABS Light

Can someone please advise ... Brought my 1999 Windstar to the dealer since the ABS light went on. They said it's the right front sensor ... they wanted $300 to replace it so I took the car back and bought the sensor myself for $32 and replaced it myself... it seemed simple enough but I don't understand why the ABS is still on after I replaced it. Is there computer codes to reset and if so, can it be done w/o bringing it back to the dealer.... THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

on my '96 'star, if my brake fluid is a little low, the abs light comes on. A little fluid added, and it's off. In fact, I did that this morning. One time, I had a hairline crack in the right front caliper (saw it as a moist line, while changing pads), and I replaced it. I still don't know where the fluid goes. I mean, as your pads wear, the level goes down, but it seems to leave the resevoir at a much higher rate.
I hope that helps a bit.

The light may also come on if your shoes/pads are worn out and require replacement.

On my '96, the fluid just needs to be a hair off the full indicator on the resevor......and the light comes on. Also, there is a sensor in the master cylinder that can go bad....as I have read on this forum.
