i have a 98 chey 1500 pick up with the 4.3 5 speed tranny. i noticed that you could smell coolent about a month ago when you would shut the truck off. now its gotten worse to the point that if i drive the truck and then let it sit for 30 mins there will be some spots. the water pump is wet so i know its leaking from there but all the fluid i've lost isn't coming out of the reserve tank. i also tried pulling the rad cap off when it was cold and that also seemed to be full. where is it pulling it from and i do still have heat. also if anybody can tell me the steps on how to pull it off and replace it it'd be great.

That's a thread I had not too long ago because I had to replace mine. To tell you the truth the only time consuming thing is getting them gadamn oem clamps off of the hose, we just cut that hose and got a new hose too put on too. I dont know how much longer it'll take considering your's is a Vortech, but still, pretty easy, just make sure you dont fuck up the gaskets putting it on.

On a 98 you will have to have the clutch fan removal tool.

Yep, there is no way around that damn tool either. I can rig a broom handle into a tire iron damn near but there is no way gettin' around that clutch fan removal tool on a '98

"Twilight (Auto) Zone", O'reilys, Pep Boys, etc should rent them. Doesn't cost anything but do have to put down a deposit. Thinl it was somethin like a $25 deposit when I did mine which I got all back when I returned it
