Can you swap a ford 3.8 with something reliable

I am wondering if any of you have swaped your 3.8 for something else more reliable. Or made better modifactions to the engine to prolong life. (eg. better head, better gaskets, anything - maby colder thermistat.If so please tell us all. I have a 3.8 mint with 292,000. Needs oil pan thats
it so far. I baught it certified 800.00 no rust except pan and under engine. I like the look but I want to make it last. There's got to be a way. anyone use maxlife oil or speacial oil ? or lucus oil additives
