Finding a vibration in the front

95 SC2 - 149,000 miles

I have a vibration coming from somewhere the front end. It changes with the car speed and not the engine RPM.
It also gets louder when turning.
I have replaced brakes/rotors/hubs/struts.
I jacked up the front and removed the wheels and ran it up to 3k
but can not pinpoint the problem.
My question is: How can I tell if the vibration is coming from the axes, transaxle, clutch . . .?

louder turning left or right? turning the other way should quiet it down.

did you remove the CV joints? wheel bearings? did the vibration start before or after the work was done?

It is louder turning to the right.
I have not done anything with the cv joints and replacing the wheel bearing was my first guess at fixing the problem, not the cause of the problem.

Something else to note: when I had the car in the air it was louder with the wheels on then when they were off. Is this just due to the extra load on the axles?

Right know I suspect the bearing between the intermediate shaft and the axle.

i'm sure the cv joints would click rather than grind. as for the weight on the axles i'm not sure about that. what would make you suspect that bearing? when was the last time you had everything lubed up?

I had a wheel bearing go out on my 95 SL2. It didn't have a vibration, just a grinding noise. Oh, the bearing was on the right front. The car had 150,000 on it when the bearing went out. I'm surprised that I didn't have wheel bearing issues sooner. The wife loves taking corners on two wheels. It may be multiple problems. Check the tires for possible tread separation and proper balance. They could just be adding to the problem. Good Luck!

It is louder turning to the right.

the outside wheel turns faster then the inside wheel on turns, therefore, if the noise is louder on right turns, 99% of the time the problem is on the left side.

what did you replace on the left side? also, check trans fluid.

i forgot to ask - this is audible vibration, mechinical vibration or both? - anything lining up with the chart?

Stupid I know... But have you gone through and tightened EVERY bolt on your suspension? Bump-stops intact? My first guess would be metal on metal friction somewhere in the suspension.
