anyone know how hard it would be to swap out the stock 420a in my gs, and drop in the 4g63 motor and fwd tranny? new motor, trany, ecu, mounts and other shit included, would the swap itself be very hard? its my only car so taking it off the streets for a month ain't a option.

What engine can I swap into my GS/RS ? - ashah000
The only engine that can be directly swaped is the one that is in there right now (the 420a).
You can swap a GS-T engine into the car but it would be extremely difficult and costly.
Here are the costs (from 2gnt)
1. 4G63 turbo engine (stock) $1500
2. transmission (stock GS-T FWD) $500
3. wiring harness for engine $300
4. 4G63 ECU (stock) $300
5. shift linkage $200
6. custom engine mounts $200
7. chassis cross member $100
8. complete exhaust $200
9. intercooler, turbo, related parts $500
10. boost gauge/fuel filter, etc $300
11. Installation $1500
Total - $5600
You can also swap in a 2.4L from a Dodge Stratus/PT cruiser. This is easier than the GS-T swap, however it does require some custom faberication. Also it would be backwards (the header would be on the firewall side)

if you do the whole front end that requires cutting and rewelding the front frame forks. you better take some damm good measurements and line it up straight otherwise your gonna be cutting it off and trying again.

I don't think it's strict at all. The first reply was a cut and paste from a thread I have read many times before. My post count is very low because I spend most of my time reading all the stuff stickied and all the cool write ups and stuff. Plus you don't have to wait!
Oh yeah, the subject of this thread is misleading and also very noob-like as that question is a dead beaten horse as well.

i had a 95 talon with 420a in it and did a jdm 4g64 swap ..It is a hassle but when its done i guess its worthe it lol.. If i could do it again i would just buy a a gsx or gs-t .But if u want to do the swap u have to buy the engine, tranny, ecu and butt load of crap then you have to tweek some engine mounts and stuff lol.. :banghead: .. not worth it . Just buy engine tranny and rebuild them while driving your gs and then buy a rolling chassis and there ya go ... :grinno:
