Those great headers need a great gasket kit

Okay I found a set of those good 91-92 headers from the sc. Paid 95 bucks total on ebay and will be here in a week and a half. Can't wait for that great horsepower gain. I just wanted to know what is the best gasket kit I should use (particularly best model year kit)? I have a 97 sl2 and it came off of a 92 sl2, but is the old skool sc headers  .

the OEM gasket will do just fine, the only high-performance(even though they have no discription of it) i know of is at http://www.saturnmotorsports.com/

yeah. OEM is your best bet... an even better bet would have been to not buy them off ebay because you people will pay me anything for them... i got to a pick n pull junkyard and get them for 20 bucks... should i feel bad about this?

i got mine on ebay for 20 bucks plus 12 shipping, my local junkyard didn't have one plus they would have charged me more then that. best of all i didn't need to lay on my back in that swamp fighting with those rusted bolts.

1. Okay i live in a small town with one junkyard and the biggest city is over 2 1/2 hours away, any way involves going over icy mountain passes since i live in the rockies, and I can't drive to any of them cuz of shitty tires, oil pressure problem, and leaky radiator. I believe in spending money on your car if you really love it (i do) cuz your car deserves it. I have money to spend on my car so this is a good deal for me; PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Okay, I will get an OEM gasket for my model year from sps or something. Thanks for your help!!!!

oil pressure problem and leaky radiator

umm, may want to fix those first IMHO. a header is no good on a seized engine! can you go into detail about both of these?

I have a radiator in my room waiting to be installed, but the oil pressure problem is what i think is the oil pump cuz the oil light is almost always on so i got the gear set. I was driving it on the highway back in september and then there was a BOOM followed by the oil light staying on and smoke trailing on the right side with very tiny droplets of oil i saw on the right side as well after i stopped. I put around 5 quarts the next day and the first time i hit the brakes the light came back on and flickered on and off as i continued driving. I tried adding a little more and it flickers off and on as i drive but then stays on. I was guessing that the oil pump isn't pumping anymore plus it was a suggestion in the haynes manual as a possible cause. I put a quart of oil in every other time i need to move it to help lubricate the parts (don't know if this actually helps or not but as you said, I dont want it to seize). I wasn't planning on putting the headers on till this is fixed and my valve cover set comes in (assholes at carparts.com lied to me and didn't actually ship til yesterday) so there is no coolant or oil leaking on the newly installed parts. I bought the headers cuz i was messing around on ebay one day and saw them; I promised myself i would opportunitize on them the next time i saw them, so i hit buy it now immedialtely. I didn't think it could be a leak anywhere cuz the oil light would go off (unless it was a serious leak i guess). The cracked valve cover is still on but i put a rag in the crack (it isn't a huge crack) to help control oil leaking from it whenever it needed to be moved.

i congratulate you on being smart. its so hard to find people who know what they're talking about these days...

umm...if your gonna use a OEM gasket dont drive ur car hard you'll blow out the gasket that joins the manifold to the down pipe. Your best bet is to order a copper gasket from SPS, its not expensive

you may want to buy a oil pressure gauge, i think autometer makes one for the 1.9. to see exactly whats going on.

I was planning to buy the one from SPS; I plan to drive my car hard, often. I get paid this friday. i wasn't sure if it would work with the headers at first but they told me they would so everything is all cool.
you may want to buy a oil pressure gauge, i think autometer makes one for the 1.9. to see exactly whats going on.
I was also planning to buy an oil pressure gauge as well as a voltmeter (both auto meter) and mount them on the a-pillar; I get paid this friday. Konig wing and muffler is also on the list this week. mounting the gauges there will reduce visibility i have been told, but i may get a bigger rear view mirror to help in this, plus, i expect everyone to be well behind me when i drive and my detector will alert me of cops (though i always am watching out for the cops).

Great. I got the copper gasket for the hotshot header and doesnt fit with my header. I feel retarted wasting $10 on this. anyway, i need an exhaust flange gasket to seal the connection for the header and downpipe, correct?

yep, again OEM is just fine. but be sure you buy the 91/92 gasket, the downpipe gasket for regular manifolds aren't the same.

I got a performance exhaust flange from saturn motorsports. It said it was for 91-98. Hope i have better luck this time.
