So my car was failing on code 0117 which was low voltage output for the temp sensor. went to the dealer spent 18 bucks got a new sensor and changed it out. connector looked fine no big gobs of slime or anything. after i changed it i let it run for a but while i was sitting to see if the guage worked, it only went to the middle before. so the guage works now.
After about 30 seconds the service light comes on. went to shucks checked it with a scanner no codes. cant pass emmisions because if i stop driving the car and let it sit it says that the catylist, o2 sensor, o2 sensor heater, EGR system, and the all readyness system are not completing the test because they are not ready. if i drive around and then scan it they all come online eventually except the o2 sensor heator. any of this have to do with my service light? dont want to spend 41 dollars for a diagnostics from saturn. thanks in advance.

well, when the service light comes on you should be able to get a code off of it. but in the case that i am wrong. i'm sure it has something to do with the service light though. i'll do some quick research tomorrow and get back to you. you might also want to try and CALL saturn... they give free advice on the phone. although the advice ends in "you should bring it in so we can take a quick look at it (and find stuff that isnt wrong and replace it anyway)"

the readyness monitors are all cleared if the battery is disconnected, drive it for a while (a week or few hundard miles) and they will reset in time.

so i took it down to my mechanic and this is what we found out.
there were two codes. both related to the quad drive control module
the module controlls four parts of the car. the check engine soon light, shift up light, a/c clutch, and the radiator fan. after testing them all we noticed that the service engine soon light never came on when the car was turned on the first time like the service light does. reading more about the codes it was throwing it said that a burned out bulb would cause it to throw codes. after taking the whole dash appart we found out that there was really no bulb and the wireing has been tampered with. the circut was backwards so when the sensor was replaces it didnt complete the quad controll circut and the service light came on. so eather it was one or the other and they pulled the bulb for the service engine soon light so they didnt have to find out what was wrong with the car. anyway its all fixed now. thanks for the help and the thought.
