02 Impala Air Filter change

Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to replace the air filter on my 02 Impala? It seems near impossible to be able to pull away the cover enough (especially if I am doing it myself) to replace the filter. The same problem is on my 01 Venture. Is this a GM problem? Any ideas on how to easily do this?

yeah I remember it being kinda hard too. umm I completely removed the flexible tube coming from the throttle body on the engine and off the filter . un-did the clips and I think I even went as far as to take off the cross-support bar. but I think all I really had to do was lift and pull it a bit towards the engine. but yeah basically just pull, once you get it off you'll see what it making it so difficult, but its kinda hard to explain. but theres an L tab coming off the cover that slides into the filter box, so when you lift it and pull a bit towards the engine, it takes pressure off the part of that L tab thats making is so difficult and it comes out.

Honostly, if it is under $30, take it to the dealer and let them do it.
