i realize there was and old thread recently brought up about this, but i would like to discuss this withouth reading the entire old one
i would like to point out a a couple of pros for marijuana
#1 Marijuana causes brain damage
marijuana has never actually been scientifically shown to cause brain damage to humans the only record of marijuana shown to cause brain damage was a study performed on monkeys who were given near lethal doses during a 6 month period. to put this in perspective a person would have to smoke 40,000 times what it takes them to get stoned at one time to take a lethal dose of marijuana.
in the early 90's DARE or some other organization broadcasted a commercial showing altered brain waves of a person who was high. when confronted on the commercial by marijuana activist groups, the organzation admitted they had faked the results, but the statement was never made public
#2 Marijuana is a gateway drug
this one is easy, simply look at amsterdam, although not legal it is highly tolerated, Amsterdam's rate of hard drug users is about 25% less than that of the US. What does this mean? Marijuana actually keeps people away from harder drugs.
#3 Driving while on marijuana
Driving while high should not be tolerated, but i would like to point out that around 90% of fatal crashes that marijuana was included in, the people were intoxicated, and only had marijuana in their possesion. But the gov leaves that tidbit out.
#4 Marijuana makes you lazy and unproductive
Yes every lazy person you have ever met is a pot smoker and that is the only reason they are lazy. I personally know Doctors that smoke frequently.
Seriosly the worse part about marijuana is that it is illegal and drug dealers and terrorists profit from its sale

Actually, the worse part of marijuana is the general consensus of the public over it. If marijuana was legalized.. housewives and soccer moms across America would go into a terrible fit over it. It will never happen in the States.

This was a nice debate in my Government class between two kids who really knew what they were talking about.
I forget the exact information but the person standing up for the leagalization of pot, the person against it had a counter-point to every issue and won the debate.
I don't ever see this stuff sitting on the shelf at your local drug store. Maybe if scientist alter it to a point to where there is no concern but until that happens, no way.

The government could get a better hold on it and use it to an advantage if they really wanted, and I don't doubt it's been thought of before.
Think about it like this:
Alcohol is sold to persons of a certain age. It impairs judgement and motor skills. It is illegal to give it to anyone under the age of 21 or use it while driving/operating machinary/etc. Places that sell it have to have a license to do so.
Take into consideration the amount of money profited from alcohol each year, and then replace alcohol with marijuana, with nearly the same, if not more regulations. It could work.
Now, that doesn't mean I am advocating the legalization of it, I'm simply saying that if they really wanted to, it wouldn't be AS difficult as some might think.

I think it's because the only people who want to legalize it are smokers/growers themselves. And it's obviously pretty hard to come up with a convincing argument after smoking a bowl...

I don't have a problem with it being legalized as long as mistreatment is the same as alcohol. No driving. Fired if stoned on the job. No consumption in public (give someones kid a contact buzz and get smashed in the face).

it will happen who knows how long it will take but it will happen. i dont even smoke pot anymore so it is not like im saying this cause im a stoner but it will happen pot is not a terrible drug hell alcohol is a lot worse and i know that comparing alcohol and pot wont get pot legalized but its a good example if you ask me

I think the biggest argument that we've got for legalizing weed, is that its not as bad as alcohol. The biggest argument about that is, "we've already dug ourselves in a hole with alcohol, why make it deeper with weed."
It's not really fair to weed smokers that they get treated like an alcoholic's little brother..."he already messed up, we arent going to let you do it too."
Hell, people can smoke cigarettes in public and give me second hand cancer... I can't smoke a joint in my house? America is based on freedoms. We should have the right to go out in public and not second hand smoke 2 packs a day. Cigarette smokers should be allowed to smoke in their homes, even though I hate cigarettes, and I hate the smoke, and it gives people lung cancer. Why is it that weed is the oddball. Why can't it be legalized? There is really no reason that we don't have the freedom to smoke weed if we follow regulations. Weed smokers are only asking to be allowed to smoke it in their homes, and buy it from a smoke shop. Why don't we have that freedom?

There a guy i saw on Neil Cavuto the other day who wrote a book called "It's Only a Plant." The guy who wrote the book said he does not advocate smoking marijuana, nor does he frown up it. He just said that the scare tactics and false information that the anti-drug establishments are trying to get across are only making things worse. I believe the website is www.itsonlaplant.com. If its wrong and you want to check it out, search google.

seriously dude,a magnify glass works great. If you get the right apex it takes like less than 30 sec. to cherry up your load.Just use dark sunglasses,I use my welding goggles, looks kinda funny though when Im rippin the bong with welding goggles and a magnifing glass .But its the most natural smoke cuz you dont have butane, sulfer,or even candle wax.(never tried a candle and never will.)And if its out of a clean nice glass bong thats as natural as you can get,Mary jane ,made by god, glass bong ,made by god.The sun, made by god.

Muscletang has a point, AF isn't for that kind of discussion
Anyways, arguing this point is worthless. There are those who are for it, and those who are against it. Both feel very strongly about it. I honestly don't see any chance of sway on either side, so its really rather worthless to try and debate about it.

Has there ever been a legal vote on it? I've never heard of them actually conducting one. Maybe I just "didnt hear about it", but I think that if there was a vote on it across america, or across a particular state, it would be legalized in many states. Everybody vote yes on Proposition 420!

Yes, in Alaska last election. It lost by a wide margin.

the problem with legalization is that our nation tends to abuse everything. look at food, other nations have McDonalds and burger king, but their percentage of obese people is low. not only that but weed does effect your driving ability, it slows down you reaction times, if people could actually stick to the law and like you said smoke it at their home then i'd be for it,but people don't even do that with alcohol?

ONLY REASON IT ISN'T LEGAL is because the gov't canot tax it. if they could do it like cigarettes or beer the entire U.S. would be a giant stoner nation prolly. I'm in rehab for not being caught with but FAILING A FREAKING DRUG TEST! That is bullshit 4 sessions a week at 180$ per session for the next 12-20 sessions. now you know why they would rather keep it illegal than legalize it. they want you to believe it is habit forming and trouble causing, but I'm living proof of the exact opposite of the claims, I was smoking weed since I was 10 years old, I got put in rehab and told that if I fail another test I'm going to be sent off, my friend in the same shit, I quit smoking that same day and he is still smoking, I guess that it effects everyone differently. And I've NEVER heard of anyone dying from smoking pot and the gov't has actually proven it to CURE certain types of cancer, but noone cares because they cannot tax it so they say fuck the people let em die but I say fuck the gov't lets overthrow them!

I find it funny that everybody who wants pot legalized has clearly said they smoke the stuff.
Marijuana will screw with your memory and that is a fact. Talk to people who go to their high school reunion and the pot smokers that make it there have very little of a memory at all.
As for the cancer debate I highly doubt that. It's true though they give marijuana to people who are going to die with cancer. It relieves some of the pain and puts them in a good mood.
I've also heard that they can seperate the chemicals and put the useful ones in pill form. I'm pretty sure they're close to making it useful without the side affects it gives a person.
Finally, as for the law part of it I think the Supreme Court did a ruling of some kind against legalized pot.

thats funny, i can remember more things than most people i know and im a daily user, unless my brain is just superior to everyone elses.lol i do believe it effects ur brain, but its so small, that i dont think id be much better off without it. if it did effect ur memory that much, id be braindead!!!yet i still function just fine, have a great job, and am more sucessful than many non-users. i know people that dont smoke and if u met them u'd put any bet that they do, cause of slight memory problems. but its just natural.

The thing is this argument won't be around after a while as I said. It's true that when you smoke your eyes get blood shot because of the blood that rushes to your eyes. As I said though they're very close to getting the chemicals out of marijuana that can do that though and put it in pill form. In a couple of years when you get glaucoma there will be nothing to celebrate about. You'll get a pill and will take it with nothing more than getting blood shot eyes. There will be no "getting high" or "stoned" and the reason to smoke marijuana will be useless.

What I wanna know, is what do people have against marijuana? Its no worse than beer as far as affecting behavior, (its not near as bad actually), and its no worse than cigarettes as far as health concerns. If you ask people why they smoke cigarettes, its because it helps them relax, and forget about stress. One cigarette wont have that effect for 2-3 hours, but thats why they smoke 2 packs a day. They smoke it just like weed, for the same reason, and its just as bad. If you ask people why they smoke weed, its because it helps them relax and forget about stress, and not to mention, its fun. If people have the right to smoke cigarettes, and get drunk, what is the difference with marijuana? Make laws like, you cant be high in public, you can't drive high, and you can't smoke in public. Where is the problem? Gateway drug my ass. the people who say that have never smoked it. But the main thing I wanna hear, is why are people against the legalization of marijuana, when we have the right to smoke cigarettes and give ourselves lung cancer, and get drunk, and give ourselves liver cancer. Why can't we smoke weed?

lol - nobody needs to legalize pot. The government doesn't need to make its citizens even more stupid or burned out or lazy; tokers don't need to be able to buy taxed government pot because for one thing it sucks and second it would be more expensive; growers and dealers don't need another supplier or an increased crackdown on their illegal and competitive business.
Pot will never be LEGALIZED, period. It may become mainstream medicinal therapy for people with serious health effects but you'll never be able to get it without a proper prescription or interview (its not like it will be available for headaches). If pot is DECRIMINALIZED you still won't be able to smoke it anywhere but inside your homes. You think hash bars will ever exist here legally? Club and bar owners can't even allow smoking in their establishments and soon enough you won't even be able to smoke cigarettes anywhere in public. So what would by the hype with legal pot?? (besides getting arrested, but people make it sound like they'll be able to walk into school or work blazing a spliff... :loser: ) I doubt all the burnouts will be eager to get $125 "toking" tickets in the part just to prove they're able to burn in public if they want to. Its like somebody already said: alcohol is bad enough, who needs pot to become legalized and worse yet popularized (condoned in a sense). I look at C.O.P.S. and many calls do the officers go to and disputes they try to solve when the people are totally wasted? Its a waste of peoples lives. Pot is no "better". There is nothing "better" about pot.

That's all people want really, is to be able to carry a minimal amount and smoke in there homes. I was watching a show on the history channel about the guy the movie "Blow" was based off of. The cop or government official was almost laughing about how those high on pot were so much easier to deal with b/c they were so relaxed and laid back. As opposed to those on crack or cocaine who were high strung and would get violent. Makes me think that if they know that pot smokers are relaxed then why is it such a big deal when it is no better nor worse than alcohol?

I agree, i do smoke pot, but i dont care if its legalized cause i only use it in a house or somewhere i dont get in trouble anyway, so i really could care less. but to say that cops respond to wasted people all the time, but would u rather deal with someone high off pot, or drunk! ive never seen someone get violent off weed, yet one of my best friends tried to kill me when he was drunk and can't even remember!!!!anyway..............

I'd liked to see pot legalized but as far as it concerns America, it aint ever gonna happen. Regan's war on drugs that started back in the 1980's will see to that. Decades of progaganda and millions upon millions of dollars spent to crack down on drugs, would be wasted (in the eyes of the gov't). Why would spend years of resources and tons of money to stop the flow of drugs only to legalize it in the future. Naw. Pot may stand a chance of legalization decades from now. Maybe.
But even though illegal, I never fear being caught with pot. In fact, in the past, I got busted all the time by cops with pot. Partly because I was a stoner but mostly cause I was a dumbass teenager. Every time I got caught the worst that happened was having to dispose of my weed, usually by dumping it all over the road while the cop watched.
If your carrying more than half an ounce then your asking for trouble cause thats when cops get serious. Why? Cause now you look like your a dealer instead of a user. So when out of the house just bring a joint or two.
So yeah, pots illegal but cops are people too. If they see your just smoking, not selling, then in most cases they will be lenient. Of course, it all depends on your attitude and the cop.

ok, so i smoke pot occassionally, and personally, i think it should be legalized. there are many reasons why the government won't do this, and most of them have already been mentioned. one reason, i think, is that it is impossible to prove that someone is stoned whiled driving, unless there is weed in the car, in which case you will go down for both possession and DUI(DUI counts for every intoxicating drug), but possibly not dui if you can prove that you smoked some time before you drove and just had left-over red-eye because you hadn't slept yet...but mostly they just want to take you down for possession, because usually they pull you over for something else, like speeding, and think you're sober until they shine that bright flashlight in your eyes. there's no breathalizer for weed, and they can't really take you in for a piss test, especially if you aren't in possession of weed(or a resinated pipe, roaches), because they have no probable cause. "i have allergies, officer," or, "i'm just sleepy officer, i just got off work, i'm on my way home." they can't prove it. another reason is that "Mothers agains stoned driving(MASD)" doesn't sound nearly as threatening as "Mothers against drunk driving(MADD)" and wouldn't make a very cool bumper sticker. and if pot was legalized the government would be forced to come up with a massive data survey that would show all the accidents all the stoned people got in...which i would have to say would consist of all the stupid people that aren't smart enough to find pot illegally, which is like....easier than breathing.
btw, i drive better when stoned, because of the paranoia. i drive the speed limit, and watch every little detail of the road. and while my reaction time may be slower, seriously, how many other cars are on the road at 1 AM that you could possibly hit, and if some one else causes an accident that you are too slow to avoid...they're probably drunk.

LOL  Oh dude, you're a riot! I remember using that same logic when I was younger. How many times was I behind the wheel late at night totally fried, hands at 10&2, driving like the most safest person in the world... then all of a sudden realize I had been completely daydreaming for the past 10 minutes... And hey, why not apply this hightened safety logic to drinking and driving too... sure, I mean as long as you can walk you're not that smashed right. Just take your time and extra care and you'll be fine. Especially at night when there's nobody around... :uhoh: :nono: :disappoin
I think most people will agree that "decriminalizing" weed won't make much difference. I have this debate quite often with a few of my friend's who still haven't grown up since high school. They argue busting people trying to roll a doob in a parked car or for burning in a park is waste of time and money for the Police and the courts, since most charges are dropped anyways or the penalties end up being probation or community service. My friends even go so far as to claim that charging people with pot offences is bad for society because the criminal records make it tough for people to get jobs, which in turns hurts society. They say YOU know there's nothing wrong with it Randy, so why get charged... Its like grow up people. There's nothing "good" about it either. Their problem is they use the lesser of evils argument that cops and courts should be left to target worse crimes, employers should fear a lot of other things about employees... How about actually wanting to hire the BEST candidate for the job, idiots! They feel since the justice system no longer views pot as a serious or criminal offence anyways, then why not give the courts a rest and write people $125 toking tickets. Great. You'll still be stupid moron if you're caught burning in your car one night on some quiet street. Grow up and do it at home.
As minor of a deterent as getting charged with pot is, I happen to think it should stay around. Because for those who toke it won't and doesn't make a difference anyways, but it just might be enough to keep some kids away from it or get them out of it. And there's nothing wrong with that!

dvs lt1, good points, i agree that it should have the minor penalties that are in effect. i would like if it was legal, but i wouldnt fight to make it legal. i agree with u on the issue of satchmode, it doesnt matter whos on the road, u should be in control always. if i do drive when im on pot, i also do the whole 10-2 bit, and get nervous, but i feel as if im being more cautious. example, if i drive my rx7 when im sober, i usually fly down the highway hittin speeds in excess of 100 mph. people want to race?usually go for it. if im under the inf of pot, ill drive bout 60-70, and ignore ricers! if i was driving under the inf of alcohol, id probably hit 125(i dont EVER drink and drive tho)!!!!!!!!!. im not sayin that either is good, i just dont think pot is that bad. ill take my chances using it at my house, and if i get in trouble, i will suffer the penatly. if i get caught driving i will suffer then 2. just my personnal feelings!

I think what frustrates me the most about the whole pot issue is that some people believe they will no longer have to respect other peoples rights or common courtesy if the stuff is "decriminalized" (it will NEVER be "legalized" - alcohol isn't even "legalized", its still a controlled substance with checks and boundaries and consequences - at least up here). And its not like its going to be available for teens or kids either - so you'd still be fleeing into the bush at the sight of cops to avoid expensive tickets.
I just hate the "hype" - because there is no hype whatsoever if you look at it. The notion of a tokers paradise where people can burn with impunity is a fools dream. It wouldn't even resemble Amerstdam if they decriminalized it here - this day and age where you can't even smoke cigarettes in bars, clubs, on some company property... public property is next, you'll only be able to do it on your own property eventually. I think hash bars don't exactly fit the government and society's plan for a cleaner, healthier, and better world. :2cents:

hey it's better than driving like i stole the thing, because when i'm sober i know i'll just get a ticket(maybe a reckless driving charge, if i'm caught at my most dangerous moments, which are rare), and i won't get aressted...and i don't drive completely stoned, that just makes me freak out...i wait til i'm coming down before i drive, that way it's just like driving with a little buzz...not a problem. if pot is legalized, then there would have to be a stoned limit for driving, which would be impossible to enforce.

p.s. the average drunk driver drives intoxicated 200 times before getting pulled over or in an accident.

When you smoke weed and drive you are more susceptible to accidents then when you drink and drive because marijuana can make you really focused, but if you lose that focus for a second you can't get it back. Whereas alcohol you can get the focus back. However you shouldn't do either cause it alters your perception of how good you're actually driving.

I am obviously fighting a losing battle for reason here...
I'm glad somebody else agrees that you're LEAST likely to get into an accident if you drive clean and sober, as opposed to stoned or drunk. Using bad driving to endorse driving stoned is, well... rediculous! :cwm27: Try using that excuse in front of a judge eh?
"but your Worship, I'm such a bad driver to begin with - that's why I had to get high before I went out."
... :eek7:
Ever heard of driving school son?
or
Well you poor thing, we'll just have to take your license away for a few years so you won't be forced to use drugs again.
I really don't think there's anything wrong with smoking weed at all... the problem is when it becomes a daily habit or your life and way of thinking start to revolve around it (like when you start believing it should be "legalized"). Besides, burning is so much more fun when you do once in a blue moon...

You're joking right? I can focus far better when I was high than when I drink. Alcohol makes you see double, marijuana does not. But I guess eveyone is different. But after having my own close calls with myself driving or riding along with a drunk. I NEVER drink and drive. It's just not right. I may have one or two beers at most, usually only one per hour. No more than that, but usually i dont even take the chance with that.
A charge huh DVS? Although yall are wasting a lot of smoke there, lol. Those were the days. I use to be a daily smoker. Nothing wrong with it to me. My life didnt revolve around it. Once I was done taking care of all my business for the day I'd light up. Those were the days.

We called em "supers" - and I know those days too: living at home, no rent, no steady job, doing average in school without even trying...
But I tell you, as fun as those times were if I had the chance to do it over again I would have avoided it (this coming from a guy who burned before class, on lunch or spare, after school, and often but not always in the evening - everyday for the better part of three years. The other four years it was at least twice a day). I look at the $35k I've spent in tuition over the years and think if I had actually tried in high school I could have got perfect maks and full scholarships - but besides all that crap I would have macked dozens and dozens of more chicks. So many girls liked me in school but the majority were nice girls who didn't smoke, so they were turned off by the burnout image (but it didn't matter cause I never gave these girls the time of day anyway). I look back at all these chicks who really liked me and I'm ashamed now that I didn't bang every single one of them (I mean these were cute girls - not pugfugglies or anything). I was always more worried about missing out on a session or what the boys were up to. Where are those guys now?? Some are still useless burnouts and the others are whipped by their bitches (or wives).
Glad I turned out ok.

that "super" looks so gay... I think thats what you call a "thuperrr" lmao. Its way better doing supers mouth to mouth with a hot chick. We called it super or shotgun. But I'd never super with a guy. Just too intimate of a thing to do with my "homies".
however, the point is that weed aint a big deal of a drug. Its pretty minor. I really don't care if it gets legalized... it wouldn't be as fun if it was legal. But as for a pot smoker... I dont think the punishment should be so high. It should be equivelent to a speeding ticket... "We caught you, now pay up." and then the fine should be based on how much you had at the time. But it shouldnt go on your record. But basically, I honestly dont give a shit if they legalize it. If I wanna smoke weed, I'll get it and smoke it. And if it was legal, like I said, it wouldnt be as fun. But I dont think theres any good reason for it to be illegal. But who cares.. fuck it.

Interesting, so you think supers are intimate simply because of the close proximity of ones mouths? I’d say you’re showing affection when you hug your pals or even shake hands, but whatever. Everyone's entitled to be in tune with their emotions and sexuality in their own way...
Supers are about getting as high as possible. I actually hallucinated of my very first super. But we were psycho back then - holding in hits until we blacked out or passed out. At least my friends who are still potheads aren't that hardcore anymore.
