This is what you have all been waiting for. :grinyes:
The 2004 AFMOTY contest entries.
This is the 3rd annual contest we have done at AF, and it has become a highlight of the modeling year for me to finally get it altogether again for you all to see and be part of.
First of all I'd like to thank those of you who have entered the contest....I wish you all the best of luck.
PLEASE remember this is just abit of fun.
Please dont feel disappointed if you dont get more votes than you thought you would. There are some really top models entered this year and I'm sure you will all agree with me when I say it will be very hard to narrow it down to a top 3.
I've been lucky enough to view the models since the beginning of December when entries started coming in and I'm still finding it hard to pick my top 3
Please note that even though the rules asked for all pics to be uploaded from AF, I've had to download a couple from my site due to problems trying to get them to open and getting the contest posted on time etc.
How to vote
All you have to do is pick your top 3 and send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE with your votes
The voting points are
1st=3pts
2nd=2pts
3rd=1pt
You have until the 30th January 2005 to vote.
Remember......Only AF members can vote that are members BEFORE the 31st December 2004. This will also stop people logging on with different names to vote again.
You CAN NOT vote for your own model.
If a vote is suspect, I can check it out and it will be deleted along with your entry of the model.
I will have updates every couple of days and the final result will be post at the start of Febuary 05.
A extra I'll be adding to the results will be the amount of times a model has been voted into first place.
Thanks again for trusting me to run this contest.
I will have a prize for the winner. At this stage it will be the new Tamiya Xanavi Nismo Z.
If anybody else wants to add a prize for the winner, PM me so i can add it to winners stash!!
Have fun and goodluck to all of you that entered.
Please add a reply on your thoughts etc so i can have some feedback for the next one!!
Warren

Everyone who entered congradulations cause I think everyone of them was done very well.
Also thanks Primera man this contest seems like a lot of fun and got me thinking bout an entry for next year. But there would be no contest without the work you put into setting it up and running it!

After ten headaches, an ill stomache and some hard thinking I placed my votes! Just kidding, just placed my votes....boy, was that hard or was it hard? I think it's unfair to all the others to just vote for three among these fabulous builds.
Good luck to all contestants!

Now I just don't agree with that...I didn't even look at names when I made my choices. I let the models speak for themselves. And boy, was that tough!

I'll agree with that. Its kinda like a popularity contest. All of us have models that come out really great, and sometimes really shitty.
EDIT: I finally figured out how to word this right: Okay, some (okay, alot...bah!) are rushed (I'm a tad bit impatient), or messed up towards the end. But, when I set down, take my time, and do actually try to do my best, they normally come out pretty well. Especially this years AFMOTY entrant, my Jeep. NOT voting for me, or anyone else for that matter, because my or there other models are shitty isnt right.
Heres a voting tip: The first thing i did to help me narrow my votes down was pic my top favorites, by quickly looking at each picture.. This was easy, as it was a high number, 6 or 8, or so. For you it could be 15, or more. Then I closely look at each picture, and make mental notes of EVERY mistake that i can pickup with just glancing at it.. Does the bumper fit straight, or is the window trim painted straight, or is it even there?!. That should narrow it down further. This cut my 6 or 8 right in half. Then i look at each pic carefully and note EVERY SINGLE mistake. Do the tires look right on the rims (too skinny, wide, etc), look at the shine of paint, see if the panel lines are there, if there too dark and or bright.. by now you should be to 3, or keep repeating these steps. NOT ONCE did I look at the usernames untill it was time to vote.

i agree. however i did look at the names as i scrolled down but i didnt let that play into the voting process. i followed much the same procedure in narrowing down my choices

An idea for next AFMOTY could be to leave the members name off the pic and just have a number :naughty:

Some very strong contenders this year, a difficult choice.

That's a nice idea Warren, but on the other hand, how big will the chance be that someone around here that votes, has never seen Hiro's Skyline, or Rallyraiders Murcie? Some of the models, are so known, that it doesn't matter if the name comes with it or not... The only way to make sure that nobody knows which model comes with what person is to forbid showing any pics in a thread or somewhere around the net before the contest is over. And I don't know if that is such a good idea, and even more, if it will work...
Besides that, in some models you can see the hand of the builder anyway... :icon16:

.. by now you should be to 3, or keep repeating these steps.
My final 5 were so tough that I found myself critiquing the photography!
I've had a hand in organizing a few local car shows, and I've learned that it's sometimes better to have two contests running: "best in show" and "people's choice." For the best in show award, there are 5-7 pre-chosen judges (who of course have not entered a car in the show) who go over EVERY aspect of the car. Does it have the correct carb? Is the paint correct to date? They go by set criteria, add up the points, and name best in show. Then there are the people's choice awards, where spectators are allowed one vote for their favorite car at the show. This seems to keep the car owners and the spectators both happy. I bet a setup like this would work for next year's contest. Also, leaving off the builder's name and giving people only one vote would help a little to spread the votes out.

Exactly which pics or links aren't working for you Bob? I just checked and everything is working fine for me (took quite a while to download too on dial-up). So the AF side of things looks to be okay. Could it be something at your end, like your browser or firewall? :dunno:

Incredible! Another great year, and 45 more winners! :)
It looks like we have a broad spectrum as well; trucks, tuner cars, factory stock, muscle cars, exotics, motorcycles, rallye racers, hot rods, concepts, and even seats! :D
What is so amazing is that there are entries that haven`t gotten a vote but look to be spectacular builds.
Besides that, in some models you can see the hand of the builder anyway...
IMO, the coolest words ever placed on this board. :)

If some pictures arent working, RIGHT CLICK THE RED X, AND CLICK "SHOW PICTURE." You will have to do this for every pic that doesnt work.

If I remembr right, I was the only one to enter a "truck based" vehicle. I think I was the only one with a truck last year too.

I don`t remember your model from last year, but this year`s is killer! Nice job!! It looks like you stepped outside your house and snapped a shot of a Cherokee 4-wheeling in your backyard. :grinyes: :iceslolan Unless, of course, your backyard is in Florida! :cwm27: :lol:
You almost had another truck competitor. Maybe by next year I will have something to enter. Then again, I said that the past two years. :loser:

wow, Wow and wOw. These are some really great models. It was definitely hard to choose just 3. I think what made it harder was just looking at 1 photo of the model.
I took the time to look up a progress thread to see what went into building the models. Maybe for future contest there could be a link to the progress thread or link to a completed thread with more photos and a description from the builder as to what went into the build.
I know I'll have to work hard on mine to enter next year and be anywhere close to the quality of models represented here.
Congrats to all :bigthumb:

WOW a really hard decision. All are beautifully done, with a great diversity so there's something for everyone.
Well done all of you!
