I have a 96 SL and am looking to swap out my stock speakers for new ones (two in front doors and 2 in back). First, does anyone know how to remove the speakers in the front? And second, does anyone know how to remove the carpeted section covering the back 2 speakers (over top of trunk, immediately below rear windshield).

All help appreciated,
helfrizzle

to remove the front speakers all you need is a screwdriver. pop off the speaker covers and then push in the little plastic centers of the pins holding the speakers in and then pull them out there should be 4 in each. as for the back carpeted area there are the same idea except you pop the centers towards you and the rear of it is held in by clips. take it out carefully and try not to break them. the same pins from the front are used in the rear. so take the screwdriver and push in the center. pliars are helpful. any other questions just email me at [email protected]

for a 96 sl, which i have, you need to remove the entire door panel to get to the front speakers. there are 4 screws to take out and the door handle also has to be removed. when removing the handles you have to slide the blue and white clips off of the rods that operate the door lock and latch, which was a pain in the a$$. then remove the black thing next to the side mirror, it just pulls off. now you slide the door panel up and off. 4 screws hold the speaker in place.
