seafoam

i was going to seafoam my 01 impala this week before my oil change, and was wondering exactly where i can add the stuff. it says the pvc system, now does that mean i should suck it through the pcv valve, or pour it down the hole where the valve sits into?

What i did was just put it in the crankcase and then some in the fuel tank. I put it in the crankcase and drove it around for awhile and then went and got an oil change. Besides, if you pour it down where the PVC valve sits, your adding it to your oil anyways because the PVC valve it attached to the same thing you add your oil too....

well, putting it into the crankcase does not get the seafoam into the combution chamber...the pcv would.... i guess putting it into the gas would get the seafoam into the combustion chamber, but i dont think its in at the strength that it would be if i did the PCV line. when u do the pcv it will kill the engine and then you let it sit for about 10 min then u start it up and all that smoke will come out the exhaust. i think to be the most thorough you do the crankcase and the gas and the pcv or brake booster line.

I never heard of that, but if it something that can be done to it..then i'm going to try it too....but i understand the concentration question you are asking, i have no idea..but when you find out let me know because i will be doing that also...and just to be sure if it's even safe to do on that car...

you're supposed to take off the hose to the brake booster, and use that hose.

ok...so i just take it off...and stick the tube in the can till the motor stalls out??? how do i do it step by step??

You can use your brake booster line, but a few others as well will do the trick. Any line leading directly into your intake will do. You can use seafoam liquid, or GM top engine cleaner (liquid)(dealer item only) part# 1050002. I connected a lllonggg piece of vacuum hose to my intake and put the other end inside the can. Be sure and monitor how much cleaner you let your vacuum suck at once, you don't want your car to stall until the can is almost empty. You may want to keep your finger on the throttle lever just in case your car begins to stall before the can is empty. If you car doesn't stall, just turn it off once the can is empty. Let your car sit for 2 hours, then start her up and get ready for the smoke show! :biggrin: You'l get big billows of white smoke for at least 20 min. while the cleaner plus your carbon build-up is burned off.


I changed my oil and plugs afterwards.

where does all the seafoam go?? does it go in the cylinders? This seems kinda weird to me...i dont know if i want to do it...where is the brake booster line???

it goes into your intake and the combustion chambers - what doesn't burn off ends up as residue in your oil, thus the need for an oil change...

Not to worry, seafoam is the same thing as GM top engine cleaner, GM wouldn't create a product and sell it from the dealer if it would cause problems. Carbon build-up robs you of power. I saw increased throttle response and smoother drivability after I used GM top engine cleaner.

The brake booster hose should be a large vacuum hose (maybe 5/8) leading from your intake to the face of your brake booster.
