Thanks everybody, I'm really pleased you guys like this Lambo. I definitely feel the need to do more at some stage, but the Mairesse GT40 must come first!
Yes Steve, the Fujimi kit does need a lot of work but the basics are good, as shown by plenty of nice builds on this forum. Good to point out that you will need to exercise quite a bit of extra effort to realise a decent result. I'm sure we'll all b e astounded by the parts you will spin up on your lathe for it. :D
Mikko, biggest mistake is the missing front side turn indicators, forgot to make a recess before painting and don't want to use the decals! Also look at the rear shot on my webpage, in particular the fit of the rear bumper on the drivers side. I had to modify the fit because Fujimi had this weird looking overlap. Went together fine but moved when I wrenched it to get the chassis in. That is just two small details, plenty more. :) Same with all modles I suppose, look hard enough and you'll find something "wrong".
What colour you going to build your Murcie, Skyline Fan?
Interesting point Jay, wouldn't want Fujimi to think they don't need to improve.
Thanks again everybody and Merry Christmas. :)
P.S. Sorry for the poor spelling in this post, I'm writing it in a very cramped internet cafe whilst on holidays!

This model is in a very exclusive club IMO. The engine bay alone puts it in my personal top 5 ever on AF! Thank you for sharing this with us... Great work! :evillol:

I think I definitely want to use your model as inspiration for a color artwork rendering, do you mind?
Thx, Phil

Leon - how does your Cobra Colors Lamborghini paints compare to the PPG stuff? Purely a hypothetical question since we can't get hold of your paints in Australia. :(
Al - sure, that would be okay. What are you planning, a photochop or something from scratch?

Thanks Chevy, no I'm not from France but Australia. If I was to make some Aussie plates I'd have to convert the Murcie to right hand drive! The plate decals are from Colorado-Carpena, don't know if they are current or correct. I just like the big European plates. :)

Phil, it will be done in marker and pastel w/ a little bit of paint, hand drawn no computer.
Just to keep in on topic: Are those rims stock or aftermarket and did you have to paint them? They look sweet.
Thx

I was about to call BS until I saw the last photo. man you really had me thinking you took pics of a real car!!! This as an example of how things should be done!! hands down the best Lambo I have EVER seen in scale!!!!! Possibly the best kit.
you should put it on ebay as a joke, not telling anyone it is a model, and see what happens. hahahaha...
"WHAT!?! I JUST SPENT $165K ON A FREAKIN MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
hahahahaha, that would be hilarious, then unfortunately you would mysteriously disappear.

Al - Judging by your past work that painting should be awesome! The rims are aftermarket Aoshima VIP Kranze LXZs, they come chromed but I modified the lips so had to repaint them.
rsxse240 - I think there are laws aginst trying that sort of thing.

Phil, they're all formulated from PPG materials except for Verde Artemis Pearl.
I wish I could ship internationally, believe me!

Sounds like they are exactly the same then, but I guess better value for money. I had to buy five times as much as I needed, because they couldn't mix any smaller quantity than 50ml.

phil how deep is the lip on the rims when they are stock?
RallyRaider
01-10-2005, 10:42 PM
The lip on the wheels is fairly deep OOB, I probably added 2 or 3 mm on the rear and left only the bare minimum at the front. The rims come as two pieces so it is really easy to modify.

Do you have any tips how to protect & keep the unused decal? I had about 40 boxes of kit. I am worry they are turning color in yellow later. Also I am worry if I store in somewhere which is dry, the decal will crack later...
In the mean time, I am thinking I should be a model collector or model maker. Becuase I don't want to distory any of the model kit without any skills.

I don't do anything special with my decals, just leave them in the boxes. I've read some people remove decals from the kit and store them in a photo album, the kind with acid free paper between the pages. Don't know it helps.
I don't have the '04 Impreza kit yet, looks to be a beauty. I'm looking forward to seeing somebody on AF build it. Maybe you should! I'm sure you won't destroy it, and even if you did you'll still be learning to make the next one better. We all had to start somewhere, and there is always room for improvement too. :)

I saw you have couple same kits on the rack. What will you do to the rest of them, when you already succed to build the first one? Modification? or collection?

I plan to do different versions of the cars. For instance, at the moment I'm working on my fourth Peugeot 206. No I'm not a collector, but a builder with a shortage of time. :)

Your job is amazing, from the color to the detail added it is an awesome work.
Congratulations
I'm going to build this model but the 40th Anniversary version, so I'll have some questions.
Regards!

Hi Ramon,
Glad to hear you received the paint and you're happy with it. The Verde Artemis Pearl was derived from a Glasurit formula obtained through a European distributor who contacted Automobili Lamborghini for the original formula. It was a royal pain to get the exact match.
Teal = blue-green.

Ok, thanks, now, I'm in the middle of the application, I just applied the basecoat, and it works great!!!
Now, the question:
How much time is advisable to leave between base coat and midcoat?, and then how much time betweeen midcoat and clearcoat?
Thanks again

Don't know about Cobra Colors paints in particular, but if they are based on PPG products then they should be similar to what I used. So with that proviso, let me say not much time is required at all. I only left a day between coats, although the weather here was warm and dry at the time, high 20s to early 30 degrees Celsius. If the temp is colder or damper where you are it may take longer. I figure state of the art automotive paints like these are designed to dry and be coated quickly to minimise turnaround times when repainting cars. Paint shops don’t want to be leaving work for long periods of time to cure.

Phil is correct in saying that these paints don't require much lag time between applications. If the basecoat is dry then it's OK to apply the midcoat. To be more sure about it being dry though, let it sit overnight before proceeding.

I've painted 2 Lamborghini tricoat finishes on 2 separate cars, and I only waited about 2 hours between base coat and midcoat. I applied the basecoat in a few light coats, and it was dry in 1/2 hour or so. These lacquers dry so fast, it's amazing.
I then let the color coats sit overnight before spraying clear.
