i definatly have a prob. with saturn trannies. i have a 96 sl1 and in the last two months have had two tannies. every time same story. basically the gears crack the bellhousing (its a manual) i dont mess around too much at least not enoufgh to do that kind of dammage! can any one else vouch? just wanted to see if their are any preventative measures that i can use to stop it. and if their are any easy fixes.
would be much abliged for any info:

the gears crack the bellhousing? i've never heard anything like that for the 1.9L. that doesn't seem right in the sightest. may i ask to see pictures? with them i might beable to find the cause of failure.

its almost like the geas cracked the bell housing, morelikely that the cap on the end of the tranny got chipped off by 5th gear ill try to get pics but i am no mechanic so all i can do is explain what has happened twice! it is a 5 speed by the way.

umm, you don't? on the other thread you said you hit the 108 limiter every day.

just to clarify - the bell housing is the part that connects the engine to the tranmission and encases the clutch/flywheel. on most cars the bell housing is not a part of the transmission case, on saturns i beleave it is, but honistly i haven't looked at one in a while. but then you talk about the 5th gear cover, on the far side of the trans. if the engine still runs, next time you run it, watch the crank pulley, see if it "walks" or wobbles back and forth.

well it apears that my mechanic said that i threw a pinion through the bottom of my trannie but i want to replace it myself. but i have a question, can a sl2 (DHOC)trannie bolt up to a sl1 engine (OHC). will this do any thing for speed? has ny one ever one this?
Thanks -Justin
