My Service Engine Soon light came on on my 97 Saturn SL2 shortly after an oil change and hasn't gone out. The car works perfectly. Someone suggested resetting it to see if the light comes back on. How do I do this? I see in another post to take the battery cables off and touch them together for 15 seconds......

I don't believe they need to touch together. Disconnect the negative for about 10-15 minutes then reconnect it the computer should reset.

i would get it read, go to your local Autozone or parts store, many will pull OBD-II codes for free.

Disconnect the battery for 10 - 15 mins will clear the codes or autozone can clear your codes for free. It is definitely not a good idea to touch both connectors together.

I would love too but I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada and I believe they charge for reading codes. If the light comes back on I'll take it in then. Thanks everyone! By the way, I LOVE my Saturn and will probably make my next car a Saturn too.... :)

Your service engine soon light means that there is something wrong with your exhaust sensors in your car..the smallest thing is that it could be that your gas cap isnt on tight enough and getting more serious could be a sensor or smog/ pollution problem.. get in touch with the dealership.. that light comes on a lot if you've modified the car as well.. for my car its because of the cold air intake.. sometimes water splashes up on to the p-flow and gets in to the sensors..drive your car around for 30 mins then your golden until it gets damp again.
