I have a rex with a d16a1 (89 teg). The block is cracked but the head is still good. I have a friend with an si layin around but the bottom end needs to be rebuilt. I was wondering if i rebuilt that bottom end on that si block and put that d16a1 head on that si if that would work and be nice.

Well is it a dohc zc because i doubt a d16a1 is work all the hassle to put in. Mounts dont line up, etc. And the block wont bolt up to a d16a1 head!

its a d16a1 which is basically a weak DOHC ZC, i was lookin at this engine in a junkyard but its nto worth the money or time. What you could do is buy a DOHC ZC block and use the head. But i would go ahead and swap in a sohc d series engine or go ahead and get a B. I wouldnt spend any time with the d16a1 unless youre just tryin to get ur car running again. But no you cannot use your head on the d16a6

so you think i should go with a sohc instead of a dual. if i go single im going to go si i think but if i go dual then its going to be a zc or a b16

D16Z6 or B16A1 would probably be ur best bet.

86-89 teg had d16a1, 90-93 had b18a and b17

thats why 86-89 tegs are slow and nobody messes with em.

the only good thing out of the D16A1 is the rods and pistons. the rods r stronger than any other d-series rod, and the pistons give about a .5 higher compression than other d-series pistons. only catch w/ that is, the rods changed to the weaker ones in 88, so only the 86/87 D16A1 rods r an OEM upgrade.

on a side note: i've heard the only difference between the D16A1 and the D16A8/9 (DOHC ZC) is the cams, and if u put ZC spec cams in the A1 u'd then have a ZC. however i have not checked deeply into this myself, so if anyone can back me, or knows otherwise, please say so.
