1999 - Speed sensor or tranny?

Have heard a rotational sound from the driver's side of the engine that mathces the speed of the engine. Sounds like bearings going bad (?) but can't see anything on that side that's rotating with the engine, as the belt and water pump, etc are all on the passenger's side. Yesterday the check engine light came on, and shortly after that there was difficulty shifting into first gear, as well as shifting between gears. The engine would rev, but no torque to the drive system.

I'm thinking it's the speed sensor but don't know about the rotational sound coming from the driver's side?

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks

I had the same thing with my car, turned out to be the tranny itself.
Had to have it rebuild because I left it too long. Sounds like the pump going bad.

Thanks for the info. When you say "the pump" what pump do you mean? The tranmission fluid pump?
