Normally I would say something like, "Go shoot yourself." But you are already lost my young Padawon....
Hah, j/p. Personally, I wouldn't do it for fear of about 98% of the population giving me shit...but then again, it is your choice, and if you have pride in your Cavalier and enjoy neons/kits/systems...go for it man. It's all about what you like...don't take anyone's opinion in here to heart...unless they tell you to get a turboed Echo....

That pretty much sums it up.
Sure, it's your choice what you wanna do with your car, but you came to the wrong forum to talk about a stock cavalier with body kits and neons. You'll be so slow that even burntrice's mustang mustang might keep up with you!

Honestly, the Cavalier isn't worth it. Unless it just so happens to the Z24 model(<is that right), which I believe is supercharged. Don't know much about them, but body kit, neons, and altezzas. Sound pretty ricey. Being a rice owner myself, I wouldn't really recommend getting one. How much do you plan on spending for a car anyway? Maybe if you can give an estimated amount, we can help you find the car for you price. late...

hey lay off the cavs! i know they the baseline models are cheap econocrap boxs, but the Z24 models from 2000-2002 are really nice compared to a baseline. If you get a cavalier the ONLY models worth getting are 2000+ Z24. Other than that they are all crap. And eve the Z24 in its stock form isnt all that fast, its quick at best.
Do what i and OrangeZ have done. Buy a Z24 cavalier, 2000+ model for around 7G's. Then buy the Gm supercharger kit for 2G's. Drop another 2G's into exhuast, header, clutch, and tires and you should be high 13's. For 11G's you can have a high 13 second car.
Even though i am a proud cavalier owner, i hate the baseline cavaliers and all the shitty rice that has bought them up.

if your looking for a cheap and fast car stay away for a cavalier. they are slow pieces of shit no matter how much money u put into them. go by a 1g dsm wich is a eagle talon, plymouth laser, or mitsubishi eclipse for around 2 or 3g's and spend another 2g's in mods and you can have a low 12 sec car that is pretty reliable.
-Jayson-
11-26-2004, 11:17 AM
1Fast Tsi, shut up noob. YOur car is old and looks ugly. Atleast a cavalier looks better IMO than that. And if you can really buy a car for 1 grand, its gonna have high milage, alot of abuse, and prolly break down often on you. He wants to be able to drive this car, not watch it rust in his driveway.

Sounds like this thread is just shit. Personally I wouldn't get a Cavalier if you wanted to look into modding it and whatnot. Actually Honda and the dsm's are pretty cheap and decent to pick up and have a huge aftermarket for them, that would be the way to go IMO. Other than that a Cavalier is just something that I would puttputt around town with.

Hondas are great for what they are. Funny thing is I'm a toyota guy traditionally lol, they're just too expensive right now, I wish the supra wasn't so popular!
-Jayson-
11-28-2004, 12:26 PM
id like to see you try and puttputt your way past my cavalier. Everyone always bashes on cavaliers like they arent as good as the all might honda or something. Even the baseline cavaliers have more power than the hondas. The old baseline engine had 115HP, the new baseline cavalier has 140HP. And as for aftermarket, cavaliers have a huge aftermarket of performance parts and such. U guys really dont know anything about cars if you think a cheap honda would beat a cavalier. For the simple fact that with rebates and dealer discounts you can pick up a BRAND NEW 2005 cavalier for 6,000-9,000 makes it prolly the best deal ever on a car. Why are they so cheap? Cause the model has been ended so they are trying to clear out remaining stock for the new cobalt.

Jayson, I've race a few Cavaliers, and I don't have beef with any of them. I've lost and won and I can honestly say they are a great competitor for my Honda. I'm not going to bash on them, but I've heard they aren't too dependable. I've never owned one, or driven one for that matter, but I don't think I will. But I'm sure if I slapped a supercharger and what not into my Honda, it would give your car some competition too. Not trying to be an ass, or say your wrong, but just calm down, and know that everyone here has their own opinion about their cars.
As for s-15racer, I'd say go with a lude. If you are going to buy an older Cavy, Jayson pointed out that the baselines have 115 HP. If anything go with a Z24, but if you can't find one, go with a Lude, or 2g DSM. More bang for your buck... Late...

why DSM?!?! The end of 02-05 Cavaliers have a BASELINE 140HP ENGINE! and you can buy this car for as low as 5,000 for an end of the year 02. And their is no problem with reliability. My last cavalier had over 100K miles on it, i had one freak break down. As for everyone having their own opinion, how can you honestly give someone an opinion of a car if you never owned one or even driven one? Ive owned two now, so my opinion should be far superior to anyone who is posting in here.

it would keep up, but it would still get beat since its a good bit heavier. it would be a very very slow race though, nothing to talk about in public, most minivans are faster.

If you want something for the twisties you honestly shouldn't be looking at any FWD car.
If you want a cheap, great handling, very reliable, and very fun car, go with an early (1990-1993) Miata. They have a pretty good aftermarket selection too.

i have driven tons of calviers at work and to be honest with you, their interior is pretty cheap and the plastics are horrible and it sounds like your driving around in a tin can. however you can get a relatively new cavalier for like 5K which is not a bad deal. however for 5K i could get a a first gen DSM and run 12's with very little invested and the first gen DSM's are built like tanks. i know someone who has 180K miles on his 1st Talon Tsi AWD, and he has a 20G turbo on it making over 400hp and hes spraying nitrous. when he took me for a spin, he can hit over 80mph from one end of the block to around 70% thru before he has to brake. that is a ridiculous speed becsaue city blocks are kinda short.
trust me first GEN DSM's are reliable like crazy. i know 3 people who 1st gen DSM's and none of them have problems and they can all smoke me bad. and they all spent dirt on their cars to get it to that level.
next choice, your name says S15 racer. so you should stick to your nissan roots. get a S13 for 1G. you can generally drive that around for like 6 months before the engine dies. if the engine dies and you have been saving, have yoru parents help you out and swap out that single cam KA for a SR20DET, and yuou can run 13's pretty easily and 12's with a turbo upgrade. if you want to drive your S13 alittle longer, for 2G's you can buy a 91+ S13 with a twin cam KA, and you can drive those around forever, so save your money and either rebuild that tired KA and turbo it, or you can swap it and put in a SR20DET, or if you have alittle more money swap in a Skyline RB20DET in it. i have a friend with a S13 with a RB20DET in his 240 and he only spent like 3K for the whole front clip.

If you use Autotrader, I'm sure you can find a good deal on any car your looking for price wise. Personally, I have zero problem whatsoever with body kits, eurolights, neons, and soundsystems and what not as long as you have a bit of performance to back it up. If you want a Cavalier, go for it, its your car, and not anyone elses. No one else has to drive it, so don't worry about what they think. And Thorun, I just did an Autotrader search and I found 8 supras in my area, four of them the turbo moddels, none of them more than 14k. One of them was going for 15k, but it had a ton of mods on it. THose are great prices for a Supra, and thats the same as what you would be looking at with a VR4 in my area.

Well, for the years your looking at, and the price range your in, high miliage is expected...letsee-
87 means its...17 years old. It has 147,000 miles on it...thats a touch less than 10,000 miles a year, which seems average to me (my car is less than a year, and it has 13k on it), so it sounds ok to me.

In areas where there are lots of people (like suburbs and urban areas) there will be deals to be had around this time of year just before the snow hits (obviously if it dosent snow much in your area this dosent apply). I'm very lucky that I found a good buyer for my 3000GT this time of year but there are alot of people and even dealerships that are unloading sports cars for thousands cheeper than normal. I was looking at a 95 VR4 for 11k from a dealership that I would have expected to be priced around 13-14k.

Look at the trap speed buddy. My whole car and everything done to it I paid 2,300$. I could have broke 13's if I kept at it with that setup I only ran it like that maybe 4-6 times. Currently it is sitting in the driveway while I work on it, and when it comes back out spring/summer it'll have a new setup with 12's written all over it with maybe 300$ more Invested.
You have a 2.4L with a supercharger.
I have a 1.8L with an intake, exhaust and a little 50 shot....so many more mods right.
If honda would have put the b16/b18 in the civic/crx like they should have you wouldent be crying about a "motor swap" hell you could give me an h22 with is 2.2L and a supercharger and I would sandbag my car (fill it with sandbags till it weighed as much as yours) and we could race and I would still wax that ass all over the place with .2L less.

are you fucking kidding me? Your 4 tenths of a second faster than me and your 60 ft is 1 tenth of a second slower than me. And other than the supercharger IM A STOCK AUTOMATIC!, unlike you who has lots of mods and an engine swap if i remember correctly. I put 2 grand into my car to lower my 1/4 mile time by 1.4 seconds, how much did it cost you?
I thought that moding a cav was bad but moding a auto at that, thats just not smart, you should have at least looked for a 5 speed and then started to mod the car. so if you think your cav is so hot then why do you take me up on my offer and race me? i live like 30min from deaborn we could even meet up somewhere in the middle and types could even show up if hes in the area

ohh ohhh ohh im down for a race, i know you will beat me, but im sure ill suprise you. Uhh i dont want a stick car, thats why i bought an auto. City driving with a stick. . .hmm i think the 6 years of track and cross country has done enough damage to my knees, i dont need anymore. And in case you dont know, the 5 speed is only 2-4 tenths of a second faster in the 1/4 mile on average. Thats not a big deal to me, not to mention autos will handle boost better than manuals. As for the race, types and i have tried a few times, problem is im always busy. The 11th and 12th are a sat and sunday. i work both days. Sat is 3pm to 12:30am ish, and sunday is 3pm to 11:30pm ish. So if you guys can find a time in there i can go for sure. Also prey that it stops raining and snowing. TypeS i PMd you my cell, so if you still got it and can find the time gimmie a call.
Ok now onto CivicBh yadda yadda yadda, you have a lighter car and exhaust on me. If i put my weight down to yours and added an exhaust im sure i would be very low 14's. The stock exhaust on the car isnt designed for boost, so its EXTREMLY restrictive. Whats your car weigh, mins is around 2800 lbs. And dont talk about my slow trap speed time, just cause i can pull a great 60ft and 1/8th. I dont race a 1/4 mile on the streets anyways. And i dont care much for N02 on cars, just cause the fact that the car isnt always that fast. Its only that fast some of the time. Race me on a road course and ill own your ass. You will run outa N02 after 1 lap trying to keep up. Your car doesnt have performance, its got N02. Ill admit N02 does have its place in drag racing on a strip, but not on a daily driver. Give me a 50 shot of N02 and ill be sliding on 13's easily.
