Got an LS....

Well after pulling out my mini-me swap today along with the tranny I just wasted $300 on, I was going to get a b16 swap, but then realized how much it's really gonna cost me etc and plus another good deal came up with an LS.
The guy that I was saying I was going to trade my wheels for the hatch with the LS swap, is back in the picture. He said he will let me take everything LS that he has (his blown motor and the whole entire LS swap) for my motor and everything he'll need to get it running in his car. He said he just wants a running motor in it to sell it. So all I had to do was find a good block. Well I called this guy about an hour away and he had a whole LS longblock with intake manifold for $200. Says the whole thing runs good cept it burns oil when you get on it high rpms. Well I couldn't pass the deal up so I went and picked it up and me and my friend are going to rebuild the bottom end. I was also thinking about porting and polishing the head since I will have xtra $$ since I'm not doing the B16.
Just wanted to update you guys on wtf is going on with my car etc. since I said I was going to get a b16, I actually heard that the LS's are a very strong motor to run. Also would give me a chance later on if I get bored, maybe I might have to *sneeze*ls/vtec*sneeze*

*cough* *cought* ls is good for boost! You can run 8lbs safetly even up to 12 and 16. Ls has great low compression and a strong bottom end(compared to all hondas) *cough*

if i keep my b18a1 then i'm thinkin of getting it bored out to a 2 litre, port and polish, 5 angle valve job, better cams, cam gears etc etc... then building the bottom end and tossing a block guard in and boosting the fucker :)
dont wanna spend all that money only to have it fuck up :)
then i wanna find a CRX shell and make it my race car :)

I disagree that all B18A1's were 130 horse.
I researched this pretty well when I was looking into my swap and found more than one source that had the same info quiXilver listed.
In a nut shell, the 92-93 B18A1 had about 10 more hp than the 90-91s. Not sure way, maybe obd differences, maybe cams, dont really know, but several sites have confirmed it.

I'm gonna throw the b18a1 long block I just picked up for $200 in my car and just drive it while I build up another b1 block, then I'm gonna probably port and polish the head, then see how I like it. And if I'm feeling froggy one day, I might turbo charge it. I already have the nos kit so I still have a little fun up my sleeve.

Oh shit dude, you're the dude I always think of when I think of having a b16, I thought that's what you had!
You have an LS now?
I have always had the LS in my crx, I had a d16z6 in my old hatch but I dont think you were here for that.
It's actually a b18a block with a b18b head so its like a hybrid LS I geuss you could say.
All motor LS isnt exactly stupid. Its a better idea if you put it in a lighter car such as a crx or hatch. Theres a crx with a b20 in it around here all motor no vtec runnin 12.1's supposedly the fastest in the world, I wouldent be suprised because who does all motor b20 without vtec?

Why not go LS all motor? Just because someone else screwed up building theirs and got 14s doesnt mean someone else can make the motor run real nice. Every motor is different, there are too many variables to just say that this motor sucks (unless its a 60hp tercel4wd motor 3AC lol)

Well I haven't been taking any pics which I should've been, but I'll get some up tomorrow. We've got my motor out, took the other seized motor out of the hatch I'm using for the swap, put the tranny on the new block i picked up, and it's pretty much ready to go in the next time we get over there.
I'm not sure about the alternator though. It seems it doesn't line up to the adjustment slot. Does anyone have any links to an LS swap? Just to make sure I'm gonna do all the right things? Thanks

Holy shit what a day! Get ready this is long!
Update, I didn't get any pics. But I did get a lot of headaches! We started working on this thing at like 9am and didn't get done 'till like 6pm. The motor was on the ground at first, took all the axles and stuff outta the other hatch, took mine out, then we forgot you can't use the front mount with the LS. So we were going to bang it outta the way for a bit untill I could cut it off, but then we thought that he's gonna need the mount for his car (that my old mini-me is going in to) so we had to swap the front crossmembers 'cause his was shaved off nicely for the LS. Then we get the motor in, we had problems with the rear mount, took a while but we got it in nice. We went to start hooking up the wire harness etc, and some of the wires were down to like 1 strand and broke out of the connector, so we had to take em apart and recrimp a couple wires etc. Then we got the dizzy on and it had a wire missing just hanging out of the hole it was supposed to be in. Luckily we had an old one there, we just popped that one out and popped in the new one. Then the intake had all these open spots where on the other intake we had, they looked like they were sealed off from the factory. Soooo....????????? Anyway, skipped that-gonna plug em up later or use the other manifold. Then we get down to put the axles in and they dont fit! FUCK! We then had to swap out all the hubs and shit from his hatch, the axles went in, got all that back together. Then we wanted to turn the motor over with the synthetic oil dropped down in the motor to wet the rings a little 'cause the motor has been sitting a while. He hooked up the battery while I was in the car and told me to try to crank it.....nothing. Then I get out and smoke is like comming out of the back of my engine somewhere! So we try to figure out wtf is going on. The line comming out of my NOS solenoid was very hot. Odd. Seems that the nitrous line was hitting the intake manifold and was burning. WTF? THE NITROUS LINE HAS NO POWER!? We disconnected the battery cable and looked some more, found out the starter was shorting out the whole block. We took it advance auto parts and they tested it and it almost burnt the place down lol, it was doing the same thing when it was on my car. So I ordered and new starter and pretty much have to go from there tomorrow. Linkage, radiator, starter, wires, plugs, intake and we should be good for test #2. Lovely
Dude i would just do LS all the way
no turbo or nothing, all motor
thats what i have and im spanking b16 like nothing, :D
no offense to the guys that have one, but where i live thats all there is here, b16 that , b16 this, im sick and tired of freaken b16, yeah tru they make whopping high hp, but look how much you got to spend to get that, thats crazy, and if your mommy and daddy and put down 3gs ona motor, then good for you, with 3gs in an LS, i have hella options, thats y im doin ls all the way :D
it did not even cost me 3 gs to get my hatch and do the b16 swap with a few mods

i was goin b16, but this deal I couldn't pass this deal up.
i just hope this motor i bought lasts long enough for me to rebuild the other block. i just ordered my jdm b16 pistons, rings, bearings, clutch/8lb aluminum flywheel combo and a good head gasket.

Update...
Well we put the new starter on, linkage, radiator etc everything back up and ready. So everything works great except the motor :banghead:
It actually idles and everything, just there is water mixing with the oil, and it doesn't rev to high. I think it's the head gasket don't you? I've already ordered one so I'm going to replace that and see what happends. Anyone got a link to all the torque specs for the LS head? Thx.

Update. Took the head off, the gasket didn't seems bad so I'm wondering if he overheated it and warped the head. I'm going to have it checked out.
BTW the motor we took out, we put in that guys hatch, and he's letting me drive it around:biggrin: So now I have a nice lil dark blue hatch with HX's. I'll put some pics up tomorrow for all you hatch lovers =)
Question. Is there anyway to tell if a block is cracked on the inside? Thx ahead of time.

you might be able to see cracks in the cylinder walls. i'd yank it out again and strip it right down and check it over completely... trust me, its worth it

magnaflux the block, take it to a machine shop and see if the block and head are straight.

Its just a joke of an engine. Why wouldnt you just save for an ls or a b16. There is less performance parts made for it than a 82 sentra for god sakes.

B18A1 = 90-93 integra....90-91 being obdo.... 92-93 being obd1
B18B1 = 94+ integras....only difference is in the heads
ALL B18A1'S WERE 130 HORSE
THE B18B1 WAS 140 BECAUSE OF THE HEAD DIFFERENCES
HOPE THIS HELPS
There are a few differences that make up for the 10-12 Hp difference. The 90-91 integra IM and EM are poorly designed. the Intake Manifold is 2mm smaller in the runner diameter than the 92+ and the Exhaust manifold is a cast 4-1 design while the 92+ are a more tubular header type 4-2-1. Also the 92+ ecu's are slightly better due to the newer OBD which gives them better tuning. Last but not least, the 92+ cams are slightly better.

Hey good luck on the project man.
Ok LS all motor is not exactly dumb. ITs just too much work and its pretty expensive to get it even in the mid to low 13s with them. IF you're goin all motor on the LS...add the vtec head and build it right.

a bseries TB will fit on the z6 and y8 manifolds only.

Well, damn it's been a long haul, but it's comming along nicely. Got my b16a pistons put on, new rings and bearings. Every gasket you can think of has been replaced. My head was also surfaced, checked for leaks/cracks/warps, new valve seals, and cleaned. I'm tired so I'll tell more later...
Oh yea, and I got my clutch/8lb aluminum flywheel combo also, thus pictures.
