I received this kit almost a year ago, and was excited when I ordered it, but majorly disappointed after test fitting the resin body kit. I noticed right away that all of the resin body kit pieces are way too small.
Every piece of resin is 2-3mm too small. So to make this kit right, some serious surgery is in order. Every resin piece will be cut in half, positioned correctly and the void filled in.

Side skirts - Way too short
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_01.jpg
Rear bumper - also way to short
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_02.jpg

I sectioned the side skirt in a place I think it will be most easy to fill and sand away the excess putty
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_03.jpg

I also sectioned the bumper in a place where a lot of the body work will be covered by the license plate
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_04.jpg

The nose will be interesting to cut and fill, These 2 pieces are not as shrunken as the other parts, but will still need the treatment. The kit came with both a resin and a plastic 2 piece wing. The resin wing is (you guessed it) WAY TOO SHORT. I don't really like the look of it, so I will probably use the plastic one shown here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_05.jpg

Taking on a project like this just gives me an excuse to start 2 more similar cars.
A 959, and a widebody GT3 will fill the time of waiting for putty to dry, and also give me an excuse to avoid the endless hours of sanding I know I'm in for with this Fujimi kit. The resin nose of the GT3R will receive some toning down to make it more street looking.

I must have a thing for german girls with wide rear ends.. :)

I had the same side skirt problem with my Veilside RX-7, big dissappointment.

Have fun with the build :)

All that work to make a perfectly good Porsche look like a duckbill platypus. :icon16:

Someone needs to put a veil over that Veilside nose.

Looks like a fun trio.

Looking good. Nice work skills.
IMO there is really no excuse for such poor fitment of parts like this.
Most of us fork out darn good money for kits and after market stuff and i'd expect them to be right.
I have to take my hat off to you for what you are doing by adding bits to it

You are really knowing, what youŽre doing there. Nice projects and lots of respect for just cutting the additional pieces and giving in all the effort for basically doing the transkit yourself. I wouldnŽt have th nerves to go all that far!

nice VeilSide and you have a good collection of Porsches...did this come with the VeilSide Marriotts?

The wheels that came with it are awful! Only about 15" wheels, and are way to narrow. I may use the GT3 wheels on this build as the GT3-R transkit came with some beautiful resin wheels..

All that work to make a perfectly good Porsche look like a duckbill platypus.
My kids picked this out for my birthday last year. It looks like the bees knees to a 10 and 8 year old. :) It's a bit eccentric for even my tastes. But if I want a new kit for my birthday next week, I have to at least start the one they gave me last year.. :icon16:

PMAN - I agree with you. Fujimi charges a premium for this kit. Some shrinkage of resin is expected, but this is rediculous. That's definately why it has sat this long in it's box unstarted. If all works out like I'm hoping it will be a very unique build on the shelf.

Resin doesn't shrink...at least not properly cured urethane resin. Silicone molds do shrink, even the best molds will give you copies that are slightly smaller than the original. Think Scale Auto Style's Stradale parts...that's standard shrinkage that's easy to accomodate. Obviously the molds that were used for this Fujimi kit shrank a LOT. Unacceptable IMHO, for charging that much. But hey, it was a gift...

almost looks like the transkit is a 1/25 compared to the car which looks 1/24. Looks like you can handle it though.

I've made a little bit of progress on this project.
It's coming along a bit better than I thought it would.

The side skirts were filled and sanded. I'm happy with one side. :) I added more putty to the other side tonight to smooth it out some more.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_10.jpg

The rear bumper is almost ready. A little bit more sanding to do
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_11.jpg

I also spilt the nose and attched it to the body
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_08.jpg

The lower half of the nose was split in three pieces.
I glued the pieces to some plastic card, and gave it a bit of a lip spoiler.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_09.jpg

All pieces have been filled. Another round of sanding and she'll be ready for some primer.

Well, I finally finished the body work, and the endless days of sanding! :)
I'm happy to report I got it right the first time. Everything was nice and smooth the first go round.
I've got the primer on, and she's ready for paint.
I'm almost sure this will be painted Porsche Orient Red Metallic by Cobra Colors. It's a medium red metallic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_13.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_14.jpg

I also had a chance to get most of the 959 in primer. I stil have to finish smoothing in the rear wing.
I have decide to paint this one Porsche Basalt Black Metallic by Cobra Colors.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_15.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_16.jpg

I've also decided to put the GT3 back in the box. I think I will make a full-on race car out of that build.
But I've replaced it with this one. The Koenig Specials 911.
I would've primered this car today, but found a sink mark in the wing that needed filled.
It will be painted Nissan Daytona Blue Metallic by Cobra Colors.

The website is HERE (http://cobracolors.com). The paint can only be shipped inside the United States though. Great stuff, and a wide array of colors to choose from.

Veyron - Thanks for the tip. I scribed the panel lines a bit deeper now.

Thanks for all the great comments everyone. :) I've had fun building these so far.

Yep.. it's Cobra Colors VX primer.

I'm going to shoot some HOK platinum pearl, or orion silver over the primer before spraying the red. I'm hoping to achieve a lighter/brighter more in scale look.

Now in color.
The Veilside has been sprayed with HOK platinum pearl. I will overcoat this with Orient red metallic.

The 959 has been sprayed Metallic black. It needs a light wetsanding and one final color coat before clear.

Thanks for all the awesome comments folks.

Tonight was another productive night.
First I wetsanded the 959 and resprayed it and now it's nice and smooth.

Secondly, I sprayed the Veilside with Orient red metallic.
I'm glad I sprayed this over a metallic base. I think it made a world of difference. I really love how this color turned out. The classy color helps tone down the wild body kit. It's just the look I was hoping to achieve.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_22.jpg

Next I sprayed the Koenig 911 with HOK Orion Silver as a base color.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_20.jpg

After that was dry I sprayed Nissan Daytona metallic blue, a 350Z stock color, over it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_21.jpg

And here are all 3 ready to be clear coated.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/caddguy025/911%20Veilside/VS_23.jpg

I'm very happy with the results. I feel like I need to paint every kit I own tonight! :) Painting sessions like these are few and far between. I love it when everything just seems to go right.
The hard parts are done now, next I'll move on to some chassis, interior and engine building.
