02 SL1 OBD problem

I recently (6 months) bought a used 02 SL1. Had to have it reinspected so that the old tags and new stickers matched. When the mechanic tried to run the ODB for the emissions test he said there was no signal at all. I passed the inspection but will have to have the problem fixed before next year. Any ideas? And is there anything else that I should look out for? The car had 36,000 miles when I bought it and now has about 43,000.

no signal at all? ok, thats a little wierd, i'm assume this mechanic is one of the state testers? i don't know about PA but in illinois if they can't access the computer on a OBD2 car, you fail, they don't even use a dyno anymore. i would first check the OBD2 connector under the steering wheel, make sure none of the connecters/pins/tab/whatever you want to call them have backed out or are loose, if they all check out check the wires visually for cuts or opens(DON'T USE A TEST LIGHT OR ANY OTHER TOOL) unforunetly you can't test your repair without a scantool, if nothing is visually wrong you will need to take it to a OBD2 trained technician(notice i didn't say mechanic)
