Hestitates on acceleration

I have a 93 SL2. When the enigne is cold, the car hesitates on acceleration. If you accelerate slowly, the car runs OK. If you give it too much gas, it kills the engine if it hasn't warmed up yet. It's almost like it's flooding. Any ideas?

any SES light? ever have the ECT replaced? and to a lesser extent - time for a tune-up?(namely fuel filter/injectior cleaning)
