Check Engine Light On 1996 Windstar

AFTER 1 1/2 YEARS AND APPROX $500 with my check engine light problem i finally found the problem myself. it was siply pcv valve.cleaning it did not resolve the problem,. i replaced it and my cel has been out for the past 2 months.

They are cheap enough to replace every time you change your spark plugs. I'd do it every other time at least.

If you go to eBay you can find an OBD reader for around $45. It doesn't do anything but read the basic codes and clear the fault, but it's cheaper than taking it to a mechanic where they charge you $60 just to strip the codes.

I have read a few posts of people with similar stories.....with higher costs. I can throw a lot of parts at it myself for $500. There are Part changers.....and there are technicians. It is nice when we get a technician for our $60+ per hour.
