shaving the head

has anyone shaved a 93 saturn DOHC head before? if so how much did you take it down too? Is it possibly to do this even with a timing chain?

Shave the head – taking off 0.50mm will bump the ratio from 9.5 to about 10.2
Install the flat faced intake and exhaust valves from a 1991-1993 DOHC – this alone will bump the ratio +0.3


to me 50 thou is a litttle much, i would go with 0.030 to be safe. going over 0.040 starts to effect the timing i'm told, and i don't know the clearence of the valves to piston(remember this is a interference engine)

i can remember if the domed valves started mid-93 or in 94

do you think it would be worth doing? how much power would that add?

my understanding is it will give a slight to mild increase in power, most noticable at low RPM. if you are going to rebuild anyway, i would do it, in fact, i am going to do it with my upcoming rebuild.

someone was telling me it will screw up the knock sensor and it wont run right?

if you shave enough off and raise the compress you may have pre-ignition or detenation, in that event you would need to use a higher octane fuel
