1999 Winstar stalling

For the past couple of morings, which have been very damp and cold, my car has started fine. When I try to start the car about 3 to 4 hours later it dies. If I start the car then keep on the gas until it warms up it seems to stay on.

I do notice that once the car is warmed up the RPM's fluctuate between 500 and 1000 when I am idle.

Also there is a high pitched whistle coming from the engine compartment. I believe it is a vacuum hose problem but I do not know enough about the location of the hoses to know which ones to check.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mel

You have identified the likely problem.. an air leak. There are many possibilities ... hoses... air filter housing...intake manifold ... etc. You can use the hose off of a vacuum cleaner to safely probe around the engine compartment while holding one end to your ear... this will help isolate the location of the leak.

Hey 12Ounce, had a feeling you'd respond. You helped me out last time with the fuse #10 issue.

I'll give the hose test a try. Thanks. :-)
