My friend has a 92 saturn sl2 DOHC 1.9.... runs great at idle..... the car is manual and u put it in reverse not letting off the clutch at all and the car stutters and stalls..... its imposible 2 back up... 1 reverse light is out and the turn signal lights come on and are very dim when you put it in reverse.... driving foward is fine... could it be the reverse sensor in the tranny? maybe a relay? or what? we just replaced the TPS cause it was completely broken off... has new plugs.. plug wires are fairly new.. any sugestions? thanx

so even with the clutch all the to the floor it stalls or just lightly letting up on the clutch is when it stalls?

if it happens with the clutch all the way down, the clutch may not have enought clearence with the flywheel/pressure plate. or you may have an electrical short somewhere, disconnect the reverse sensor from the transmission and see what happens. if the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate clearence was off, the car would creep in 1st, on a level plane, clutch down, brakes released, just like how a automatic trans creeps when stopped

if it happens after letting the clutch up just a little, you may have a mechincal problem inside the trans. try this: with someone in the car, pressing the clutch down all the way, have them put the car in neutral, try pushing the car back and forward, then again in 1st, then 5th, then revease(remember with the clutch down the whole time), if the car does move freely in those gears, but not in reverse, i fear the problem lays inside the transmission, drain the ATF from the trans, if you see metal shavings in the fluid, that confirms it.
