2001 Tahoe Brake Problems

I am having problems breaking some times under speeds of 5mph. My ABS is not lighted, nor has it been on. What I experience is something in sorts of the ABS activating. The break pedal does not go down as far as normal and then when I let off of the breaks and then re-apply the problem goes away. This problem does not occur all the time, but is starting to happen more often. I have read some problems with the ABS sensor, but wouldn't the light be on or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2000 Suburban - same problem. Dealer said bad hub and bearings....causing ABS to misread? Both will cost $850 to repair. I never heard of such a thing I have only 65k miles!!!

Let me know if oyu hear any different. I hope there is a recall...LOL

We had the same problem on our 2001 Tahoe. The dealer put a new speed sensor on one of the wheels and it has been fine ever since. I don't remember the cost right now, but I am sure it was less than $200.

I had a similar problem on my 2000 Tahoe. Under 5mph the ABS would activate and cause the brakes to not engage properly. Almost went through an intersection because of it. What was happening was the ABS sensor got pushed up due to metal corrosion under its mouting location. Apparently the gap between the sensor and the ring in the hub is very sensitive. The sensor was tough to get out without damaging it, but once I cleaned off the corrosion on the mount, haven't had a problem since (about 1-1/2 years).

I am having the same problem with my 98 tahoe. Is it an easy fix for the fixit yourselfer or is it prudent to take it to a dealer??????
