EGR Question.

The service engine light came on in my wifes 99SL1. It is showing code P0401, "insufficient EGR flow" I looked at the Haynes service manual I have and it says to test the EGR valve by checking for continuity between pins 2 and 4 and also between pins 1 and 5. If either of these does not show continuity, replace the egr valve. I did this and there was no continuity between pins 2 and 4. Now the strange part. The same egr valve is on my silverado P/U. I tested this one also and it does not show continuity between pins 2 and 4. Has anyone else ever tested their egr valve or diagnosed this code on their Saturn?

i've never tested the EGR that way, most of the time, it just resistriced by carbon build-up, you can take it off and clean it and the passageways in the head with sensor safe carb and choke cleaner, the gasket can sometimes be reused, but its better to replace it($5 peice)
