I'm using the Tamiya Supra and SARD Supra kits for this model.
The SARD kit is donating the body shell and chassis and the motor and interior will come from the standard Supra kit.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389a2.JPGhttp://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389a10.JPG
To start I needed to swap the transmission tunnels to allow the standard interior tub to fit and maintain the low ride height. To cut the chassis I used the Hasegawa Tritools saw which cuts really fine lines without too much clean-up.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389a5.JPGhttp://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389a6.JPG
Next, I cut the engine bay panels out of the Standard Body then cut the hood out from the SARD. I then glued the engine bay panels into the SARD body. I'm using the SAS Supra hood and will probably CF it.

Excellent work on a very cool project!
The TRD 3000GT was one of my favorite cars way back in the original Gran Turismo. I may have to copy your work someday... :bigthumb:

Wow...great minds DO think alike. These pics were taken in Mar 23, 2003...its still in "almost finished" state, havent touched it after I painted it because im thinking of using a different color, maybe something from House Of Kolor. This was also the first model I have worked on since I was a kid, so I didnt want to dive in too deep, so I decided to do some semi box-stock builds first for practice. The interior and engine bay are from the street supra while suspension is from the Sard Supra, just like your setup. I also had to hack the undercarriage for the interior tub to fit. Ofcourse those arent the rims that are going to be on the completed project, just used for mock-up.
Youre doing such a great job on yours that you kind of inspired me to work on it again (maybe soon). Keep it up, the project looks very promising. And the fenders look pretty cool molded in. :sunglasse

Wow! The scope and the refinement of this model is impressive. It's really nice to see someone doing a race-to-street conversion properly. This is going to be a great model, and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

I think a lot of us here have the same two kits and the same basic intentions, and I look forward to seeing the progress on this! You're off to a great start.

Here's a quick picture of the engine so far.
I've modified the exhaust header to single turbo and scratchbuilt the turbo and wastegate. I also turned all the pulleys on my lathe.
More photo's will be posted once I figure out how to clear some room in my AF Gallery??
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389a13.JPG
Any suggestions for what colour I should paint it?

That turbo looks awesome. The whole engine does as a matter of fact. Cant wait to see it done. Cant decide a colour, cos no matter what you paint it, it will look awesome.

Woww, impressive work
For the body colour, Imo I would go for the same blue you painted the engine cover.

I've done a bit more on the Engine.
I made the Air Element by turning the ends on my lathe then cut little bits of plastic card to form the paper fins. The breather was done the same way.
Please let me know what you think?
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389a14.JPG
I still can't decide what colour to paint the car? I was going to do it silver but now I'm thinking about blue?

Nice project. That engine looks perfect!

11-05-2004, 09:48 AM
a nice blue that matches the engine cover would look nice, they would go pretty well with some gunmetal rims, since the cover is already painted that color, i would thing such a neutral color like silver would make it out of place, either way, jsut my 2 cents, very nice job on teh engine though, its like Hiroboy, but in 1:24 scale

Thanks for the comments!
I do have 1 question for the technically minded? Where do the BOV's mount on the Supra's? :dunno:
The reference photo's I've got seem to show both before and after the Intercooler? But it's difficult to tell due to the intercooler pipe layout on these cars.
Also do they use plumb-back or atmospheric BOV's?
:feedback:

The BOV can mount on either the throttle body intake pipe or the compressor discharge pipe. Supras are known for varied locations.
The Supra can purge the BOV into open atmosphere.

Thanks for all the nice comments!
Here are some more updates
I scratchbuilt the intercooler and pipes and placed everything together for better viewing. There will be quite a bit more wiring once I drop the engine in the car. I'll also join the lot up with simulated silicon hose.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67389TRD1.JPG
In this photo are some other bits I have made. The BOV, strut brace and titanium muffler. Again, I'll have to wait until I have the engine mounted in the car before I locate the BOV.

I hope you like it?
