Hopefully I'm not steeling his thunder, but I don't know if SSR Xterra planned on posting this here. It's a visual comparison of the BFG MT-KM and Super SwamperSSR 32" tires.

Now you need to get out the db meter and hit the highway for the sound volume comparison.

dB.....Jens, just go for a ride with me if you want to know how loud Swampers are.....:D. Mud terrains are this quite drummm, drummm on the highway. Swampers are like flying in a WWII B-17!!!!

I don't think there could possibly be anything that makes more noise than RRdstarr's Swampers. Need ear plugs when you ride in his truck!

Most tire manufacture's tires run a little smaller than the tire size indicates. Interco is the exception to that rule. When Interco says 32 inches, they mean it!

I would like to see a picture of BFG's 33X10.50X15 next to those two tires.

Speaking of tires. I called the local Volco today as a friend said "mention my name and get a deal" well holy shit I got the manager on the phone and we really got into it.

I told him I was looking for the Dunlop Mud Rovers or BFG M/T 31 inch for the X. He replied that both tires were too "Heavy for that type of truck. Heavy???? yes he replied the truck was not build for tires like that unless you are planning atleast a 5 inch lift kit you should not go with anything above BFG A/T...I yelled HELLOOOOO drop the bong and listen for a second. I asked you for a price not a lecture of somehting you have no clue what you are talking about.

So I am still looking....the price by the way was $30 over what Jens paid for his per tire !!!

Xlax,

Uh yeah, I think I need to throw up now! Make it stop...PLEASE!

It's a pretty rar ocurrence when you find a tire store employee that knows what the hell he is talking about or doing. I do my own research and never listen to them!

They're less than 1" taller than the SSR's and about 1" thinner. :D

Is there anyway we could take a poll on what tires people have?. I am getting a bit cunfused about choices. I have seen the ratings for most of the Mud tires and they are all close..I guess price is a factor?.

Xlax,

I think the biggest thing that should be factored in when considering tires is use. H@#$, I've seen mud tires on Kia Sportage. I was a little surprised at that one, but not surprised at the fact that the vehicle was spotlessly clean and appeared never to have been off-road.

These days though, a lot of tires are equal in performance. What each of us has to carefully look at is how we use our trucks. I chose to run two sets of tires due to the fact that the majority of my driving is done on the highway. It would be senseless for me to run Swampers all the time for this unless I just like listening to them hum.

The amazing thing is, there are a number of mud tires that are road cooperative but reasonable for off-road driving. ProComp MTs Goodyear Wrangler MTs come immediately to mind. I warn people who are considering more aggressive treads that they will have reduced wear, gas mileage and ride quality as a result of that choice. As long as they know that going in, they will do just fine.

And cost has really become a factor thanks to many of the tires being fairly equal. If you can get a comparable tire for 2/3rds the price of the competitor, why not? Newbies really need to evaluate all aspects of their driving before jumping into a tire expense. I drove my X for 2 years on Long Trails before deciding which tires I would use. And in that choice I factored in my skiing and my off-roading. I knew Swampers would suck on ice, so for road driving and snow skiing, I chose the ProComp ATs.

I think what I am saying here is ones tire choice is going to be based on their driving style and the type of off-roading they do. Really a poll would do little to determine what each person should use since that is a matter of personal choice. BTW, this isn't a dig at anyone or anything, it is merely my thoughts regarding tires.

Excellent Reply and thank you for taking the time to give me your point of view. I have been doing a fair bit of 4x4ing (also more difficult stuff) on my stock Long trail's. I will most likely also be running 2 sets of tires as I do a couple of monster treks (200 miles plus) a year and would be pissed off seeing the M/T's waste away on highway. I will most likely go with the Dunlop Mud Rovers..Super Jens got them adn I drove his X and they felt great...plus the price was right..

Thanks again.

I figure it gives everyone a chance to be an expert, and post what they have learned here. Since you're new I suggest turning your profile options to "since the beginning" so it will list all the threads. There is a lot of good info there, but don't be afraid to ask questions. We all get better from the discourse.

The search function is awful fast here so it's a good option too. Welcome to the board! :)
