Ok a friend of mine has a 89 si hatch with a b18a in it and two day's ago he was driving along and he said he heard a pop an his car died. So he checks the usual timing belt and tried to jump it and it would crank off the jump.
I looked at it briefly in the dark tonite and timing belt was still tight, all belts and hoses were there. So I tell him to check the codes, he's getting a MAP sensor code and TDC code and a Crank angle sensor code anyone have a similar problem?
Im stumped maybe an electrical problem fry the wires? I dont know why he would have heard a pop? It wont even crank now, internally fuck something up? I have no clue never heard or had any similar symptoms like this before.
Whats weird is this happend the same day he wrecked his other car two years ago on the same road and around the same time.
Any help is appreciated by me and my friend.

I'd check the rotor.

it does not turn over it does nothing.
fuel pump comes on. gauge cluster lights up there is battery power.
I was thinking something with the dizzy but wondered how that would affect the map sensor unless it's two different problems.
thank's for the suggestions

if it wont turn over and the starter is getting power, its something a little bigger than a distributor problem

Yeah, I agree with Mellowboy. Check the rotor.....even though if the rotor did fall off i'd think it would still turn over.

The rotor wont effect it not turning over. Its an 89 so he cant push start it (unless hes removed the clutch safty switch). I'd pull the starter off and test it.

WTF are you talking about? I've pop started my car before. Like when my coil was starting to go bad in my 90 crx i did it all the time, and I also did it in my 89 to get my check engine light to go away because i was pissing me off at night time.

You cant push start a car that has a clutch safty on it, because the clutch has to be pressed in for it to start.

maybe something internally snapped... like a cam or something, the timing belt coulda slipped, when mine did it stayed tight

can you start your car without pushing the clutch in?

you can push start a car with a safety clutch switch. I have done it on my 91 hatch si before.
Compression...common how we supposed to check it if it wont crank. The thing is I have basically all the same stuff he does its pretty nice ill switch over my starter and my dizzy and see if it will start then. Im thinking it slipped a tooth or something but then for it to not even crank?

The neutral safety switch allows you to crank the car, actually power up the starter. You dont need to crank your car when pop starting it. What does it do when you try to crank it? Does it click or anything? Check grounds, fuses, get a socket on the main pulley bolt and make sure the motor actually turns without any interference, check the timing marks to make sure it didnt jump...

Have you checked the ecu fuse..I know my hatch did that with the b18 in it and i was racing one night and bamb it just died went to start it back and it sounded like it lost compression and all so i tought it jumped time but it was just the fuse..Good luck later.
Edit:nevermind just noticed you said it wouldnt crank sorry..

Yep it works. just turn the ignition key to the II position and let it start to roll. with the clutch pushed in when it gets going let it out in 1st gear-or 2nd depending on hill. And viola!!!!!!!!

Guess I was wrong, most cars with clutch safty wont let you push start them.
