I'd like to know if a 99 saturn 2.0 dohc sl motor will work in a 96 saturn sc dohc? Will flywheels interchange motor mounts be the same and motor bolt up the same? Will I need to change out the computer etc.? Please if anyone knows if it will be an easy change over or will it be a big pain in the blank? Thanks for your help. Dennis

umm, yes and no
yes, the 99 and 96 DOHCs are the same, you may need to do some work with the intake and exhaust manifold, if you swap them too depending on if it is a early or later 99. (different styles)
no because there is no 2.0 liter engine for the s-series, unless it was overbored. only 1.9 DOHC, 1.9 SOHC SFI, and 1.9 SOHC TBI

Since we're talking about engines, what year cars can I look for to take engine for my '94 SL1 (SOHC)?

93 and 94 will swap right in, 95-02 will take a little bit of work.

I was given a 93 saturn 1.9 SL2 DOHC Automatic trans. It sounds like the connecting rod is going out. I know of a 99 wrecked car for sale. Will the motor and tranny swap in for the 93? Like the motor mounts and tranny mounts etc, and will I have to transfer the electronics too? any info would be appreciated Dave

for DOHC only (i hope i get this all right, i doing this from memory)
an EARLY 99 engine(alumium intake manfold) will fit in most 93s and all 94-98s.
a late 99 engine (plastic intake manifold) will fit 00-02
91, 92, and a very small handful of 93s are interchangable with each other, but nothing else(unless you replace the crank or the entire wiring harness and PCM). however, the 91s had different engine mounts, some conversion work is nessacary
that is just a basic guideline. of course, all years had little tweaks and a few small adjustments may be nessacary. for the 93 -> 99, the engine and tranny will swap in if it is a alumium intake 99. and you will need the 99 wiring and PCM(as well as add a rear O2 unless you swap the cat too)

if u got a first gen anything it has the same motor 1.9 DOHC/SOHC. if you got the SOHC you can switch heads in an afternoon. but taking a1.9 and putting the 3.0 v6 in its place is a hell of a challenge. if you got the time and the money it is possible
