92 Saturn With Oil On Plugs

Any Input Appreciated On Why I Have Oil On The Spark Plugs. Bought The Car For My Daughter 5 Days Ago. Runs Fine, Just A Little Rough Between 20 - 40. Felt Like Needed New Plugs. When I Pulled The Old Plugs, There Is Oil On Each One. Less On Gapped Side Of Plug. Oil In Car Looks Clean & Is Full.

ok there is a lot of posts like yours... i had the same problem in my sl2. now assuming you have an s class vehicle; either you need to replace your valve gasket or do what i did since my original gasket still looked good... take off the valve cover... the very top part of the engine thats plastic. the spark plug WIRES must be removed! look at the existing gasket, if it looks okay scrape off the existing sealant off of the engine do NOT scrape the gasket. place the gasket back where it belongs accordingly. apply a decent amount of BLUE RTV SEALANT around the outer gasket AS WELL AS the gasket surrounding the spark plug holes...note* the oil probably wont leave from around you spark plug housing untill you take the plug out and permit it to leak into your engine... you'll smoke for a little bit but i dont know any other way to rid youself of that oil already present in the housing.

agreed, but a few little things

1. 92's have a alumium valve cover, the 96-02s had the plastic valve cover
2. the alumium valve covers do have a gasket sold for them, but they are not needed, RTV all around works
3. i don't know the propertys of blue RTV, i use black.

thanks sierrap, i didnt know about the aluminum valve cover...sry bout the misinfo...yea the black is some good stufff, but ive always used blue rtv. however for the faceplate to my timing chain i used the black. blue rtv is just a polymer based sealant/gasket.
